I just started using google adwords about 3 weeks ago and was wondering if there is a way to find out how much your competitors are bidding on there keywords I've tried several different campaigns for this keyword hopeing it would have a high CTR and I could overrank my competitor (currently I'm listing number 2), but after several attempts I can't seem to overrank them and the only way to do so is to bid higher than them, I need to know how much they are bidding how do I find this out? I was planning on letting my ad run for about a week and hopefully get a good CTR and then I could lower my my bid back to 5 cents (in hope that I still keep my ranking). Me and my competitor both have very similar ads, but I believe mine might be just a notch better, but since there listed number one there the ones getting all the clicks and keeping there ranking.
One thing that had really bugged me about this competitor was that I had changed my ad and they ended up copying it with about 2 or 3 words different, I believe overbidding them is my only chance now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hi Ziggy,
One word of advice - don't fret too much about that #1 ranking. In many tests it has been shown that a #3 ranking can bring you a higher CR% (conversion rate).
Your CTR (click through rate) only matters if you convert these visitors to sales or desired actions. A high CTR can actually harm you if you are not converting! You don't want the most visitors necessarily, you want the most TARGETED visitors. This is important. Therefore, if your offer is to sell say hotel reservations in Honolulu, your ad should reflect this so that your visitors won't be surprised when they land on your site.
Only Google benefits from an advertiser that lists a high CTR type of ad, your goal should be to get ONLY your specific BUYING customers to click through - even if this means 3rd or 4th ranking. If you manage to find this kind of combination, your ROI will soar through the roof!
You end up spending less, but selling more.
Then when you see specific keywords that work for you (with a specific ad), then outbid your competitor for that keyword (if your tracking data tells you that you can afford it).
In this moment, I can't remember how to see your competitors' bids with Adwords - my partner usually handles the Adwords PPC promotions. I'm sure someone else knows here...
I hope this helps.
Best of luck,
