Please don't take this personally, but that argument is replayed just a little too much for my liking in affiliate circles (probably because it works)...
Think of the psychology behind it. It's certainly hard to resist...
But much as I love the idea of paying for another great idea, I don't have to - and neither do you. I get "great ideas" just reading a story to my five-year-old nephew. (Better still try making stories up.)
Your point is well-taken. Quite frankly, I don't have time to implement most of the good ideas I already have. _________________ Affiliate Marketing Programs Blog

What makes you so sure he's rich?
I sometimes think he might be, but then I ask myself why I think so. Considering I'd never even heard of "the jerk" before this thread, that really is a good question...
Oh the psychology of persuasion... You could a write a book on that.
Just a thought,

Everyone does realize that regardless of what we think of him or the e-book, he did accomplish what he intended by getting people talking about it.... _________________ Robert

I am so turned off by 99.9% of sales letters I read I hit the back button. Too much text! _________________ Business Owners Guide to Going Online What every business owner needs to know about going online |

Steady on Dave, it's people like you that muck up conversion rates!
But are you really interested in the product, or just taking a look out of curiosity? If I'm serious about a product, I will read "e-reams".

Hi Charlie
If I am really intersted I scroll alllllllll the way to the bottom of the page to see how much it costs. That usually turns me off again. _________________ Business Owners Guide to Going Online What every business owner needs to know about going online |

Hello again.

Good one.
But what are you expecting to find?
Do you reckon short copy with the same price tag would work any better for you? Or even short copy and no price?
If you don't find the copy interesting and usually the price "turns you off", maybe you're just clicking the wrong links in the first place.
Other than that, we're back with curiosity.
Just my opinion,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Post subject: I bought 'Rich Jerk''s book
|
|
|
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post in this forum, which I think is fabulous, by the way!
Much appreciated!
I loved the Rich Jerk's salesletter. My humble opinion is that he wrote it with 'tongue firmly in cheek'. I believe he just satirized some awful sales letters, which show people standing outside mansions leaning on their upmarket vehicles....
Anyway, I was so intrigued, I just HAD to get the book...
I really enjoyed reading it. He keeps his promise that it is full of info, not padding. I also laughed out loud at various points.
I didn't agree with all the points and there were some I was aware of already.
However, I definitely picked up quite a few nuggets that made it well worth the money. It was the only 'internet guru' book I had ever actually enjoyed reading. Some really have been pages of boring padding with a few, maybe even one, useful item buried beneath the fluff!
'The Jerk', in my opinion, is not really a jerk!!
And by the way, jerks can be found driving anything from a new performance car to a 'clapped out old banger'
I am more concerned about those that are all false sincerity on the surface, while hiding their 'jerkiness' beneath a veneer of fake altruism!
By the way, i'm not revealing anything about the book here...
I could be wrong he might really be 'The Jerk'..
So I'd better not risk crossing him!!
Toodle pip for now! _________________ Have a great day! |

Yes, I hate people like that, too.
Make them work if they want to like you. Much more rewarding all round.
Cheers,
Charlie.
P.S. I love your writing style. Good luck! _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Thanks Charlie
Have a fab weekend and dont work too hard... I intend to be really lazy, just as the 'rich jerk' professes to be...
Starting now!
And yes, Jurky, that's the one! I'd be worried about buying anything that cost more than ?20 on ebay! _________________ Have a great day! |

My 2 cents.
Thought the jerk sales letter was a pretty good piece of entertainment writing.
No way am I going to give money to someone who is proclaiming their jerkiness, as I assume they will do the jerk on me as soon as the chance arises.
But, there are a lot of folks who aspire to be rich jerks, and the honesty of the appeal to them is refreshing. _________________ Free Forum And Ezine Hosting

Summer is 28, nearly 29. Kelly is a bit older than that. |

dremos, I could be wrong, but it looks to me as though you posted the link to a site owned by a thief - someone who is selling other writers' books without the legal right to do so.
Instead of boasting about giving money to a thief, you'd provide a more useful service to the international community if you alerted the authors. _________________ Allan Gardyne
