<a href="http://www.example.com">101 SuperTips for Marketers</a>
You paste that into the source code of the page where you want the link to be.

It was nothing Roger.
But here's something...
Posting Guidelines
The real reason for posting?
Here's an extract...
| AllanGardyne wrote: | | Charlie wrote: | | Basically, was a post created primarily to promote (however subtly), or was the primary intention to help or inform (with incidental promotion)? |
You hit the nail on the head there, Charlie. That's the essence. |
The second thread mentioned is the place to post if you fancy disagreeing with Allan (or even me).
Cheers,
Charlie. |

Roger, Please fix your signature file. There's a whole lot of odd looking space between it and a full stop. _________________ Allan Gardyne

|
|
I think the issue of spam is one that deserves alot of attention. Because it apparently is quite confusing for many newbies. Those who have been in affiliate marketing for many years, (maybe even back to 1998), may not realize that their are lots of folks who dont know much about the internet, websites, html, spam, links, seo, and just recently have been introduced to affiliate marketing, etc...It's quite alot of information to digest and code through. There are writtten and unwritten rules AND they vary by board or forum.
I myself have been accused of the "s" word and its a word that is increasing in its tabooness, and no one wants to be accused of this or blatantly reprimanded for it. I think the word is used too freely and easily on many of the big & popular boards. I think new members should be given the benefit of the doubt or a private type warning. Apparently long time members arent the ones with this issue, its mostly newbies. Am i correct in this?
There needs to be a better way to handle this issue on the big boards.

The trick to avoiding problems is to lurk on any forum you are not familiar with and read the posting guidelines before you post.
Everywhere has different rules and interpretations. If you can't be bothered to learn and act in the spirit of the guidelines, I don't think you deserve much mercy.
The real problem round here is the balance...
Promotion is allowed (in certain ways), but it is not typical of most forums. There are plenty of other places where blatant (however subtle) promotion is accepted without question.
I can't remember a case of someone being blasted for being "ignorant", or a "newbie", but several cases of people being "engaged" for being "too lazy to read the guidelines and act on them". The worst ones are the "subtle but insolent". Playing the martyr doesn't work: people see right through it.
It's never possible to identify the deliberate abusers with absolute certainty, but if everyone took the trouble to look and learn first, the innocent wouldn't get targeted.
Perhaps the best way to prove your innocence might be to continue posting in the right spirit and see what reaction you get. Everyone loves repentant sinners.
Just my opinion,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

GENERALLY SPEAKING!
I as i type my reply i am afraid i will be silenced. Which is precicesly my point with this particular issue. The issue itself needs to be discussed for various reasons. First, i can see how an experienced member might be bothered or annoyed with this type of discussion because to them it is tired old news and they fully understand it. However, the issue cannot be discussed in private because the pm and email privileges are not there. So a newbie has limited options of where to bring this issue up. I personally would rather have this reply and my previous in private with you, Charlie. However, im NOT complaining about that.
My three main points with the "s" word are:
#1 - One should not be silenced for wanting or needing to discuss it
#2 - If experienced members are bothered by this topic, then where can it be discussed, what options are there
#3 - Mercy, innocence & repentant sinners have nothing to do with what im referring to (thats strictly a catholic thing)
It's the nuances of the "s" word and how sophisticated the definitions have become - it should not be assumed that everyone is clear on the topic and thereby presuming folks are willfully and maliciously disregarding the rules & guidelines and posting what they shouldnt be.
When i got involved in this industry more than a month ago, and i first came across some of the forums, i agree, i didnt go straight to the rules & guidelines page (what newbie does?), but i've been around the block a month later now, and know more about the community and how forum etiquette works and all the 10 or so forums i belong to, i adhere to their guidebook. But its not as simple as not posting affiliate links, or your email address or self-promo signature. It's more sophisticated than that.
Just yesterday as i read this thread, i LEARNED of yet another definition of the "s" word. I thought i knew everything, which proves my point.
Lets not silence or discourage communication on this topic or issue. This is a message board!
My .$10
Have a great day, Charlie and please have mercy on me.

"Lets not silence or discourage communication on this topic or issue. This is a message board!"
WRONG!
This is an Associate/Affiliate Programs message board!
You are encouraged to follow the guidelines and be a contributor with queries or answers on RELEVANT topics. Even your spam diversion is O/T unless it was a necessary part of someone's ongoing problem in the affiliate arena.
That's how serious I see the direction of activity here. Please appreciate we actually allow self-promotion in signature files (a generous 300 characters) and in the Blatant Ads sections - other lists do not.
Enjoy your interaction with members and I hope you get a lot of positive re-inforcement for your affiliate activities.
