Just have a suggestion for those interested in helping others like Allan. Platelets are always needed at hospitals, especially those specializing in treating cancer. Both of my parents have passed away from cancer and it was through those experiences that I even heard of the need.
The procedure (at least at the Dana-Farber in Boston, MA) takes about 2 hours and they basically take blood from one arm remove the platelets and put the blood back in the other. The whole time you sit in a recliner and watch a movie. The process is a little longer than blood donation and you can do it more often, every 2 weeks. Blood donations are 6 weeks I believe.

Hi,
I am new here and also new to donating platelets. I just started the other day with donating at the VFW with the Red Cross. It sure is a good feeling know that you can do more with those extra problem causing platelets for someone else. They gave me an emboli and now they can help cure someone else. Pretty amazing eh?
I do not know what is happening with Allan, but I sure hope that all goes well. It does not sound good from what I have read so far.
It is really amazing what a body can do. I read an ebook on the science of being well I don't know if it would help but I can leave a link here if it would help.

Anyway, it is a free ebook and downloads as a pdf file, easy to read.
