Post subject: Link Exchange Requests
|I received an email today from someone wanting to exchange links with me. I thought that this would make an interesting post on how NOT to do link exchanges.
I have only modified the actual url and the webmaster's name with x's. The rest of the email is intact as copied below. Note that the site name and site's topic came in as %sitename% and %basekeyword% rather than the actual site name or relevant topic. Also...the url that this person gave to get the linking code does not work because of the 2 //'s placed after the url.
I don't exchange links on the site that they wrote about, but in any case, I would not want to exchange links with someone who sends such an email. To me, this is a case study about professionalism in promotion.
Here is the email:
I'm the owner and webmaster of %sitename%
website at "http://www.***.com".
I took a look at your site a couple of hours ago... and
I want to tell you that I'd really love to trade links
I think your site has some really good stuff related to
my site's topic of %basekeyword%.
In fact, I went ahead and added your site to my
%sitename% linkpage at:
Is that OK with you?
Can I ask a favor? Will you give me a link back on your
site? I'd really appreciate you returning the favor.
If you'd like the description of your site modified, or if
you have any other cross-promotion ideas you'd like to
chat more about, just drop me a line.

P.S. When you do link back, here's some suggested code
to use. Just choose any one of the 3 choices you'll
see, then copy and paste the code into your website.
