Chatter Creek Catskiing, a company I am part owner of, is creating a section on our site about our 240 sq km land lease, our terrain. The idea is when a visitor goes to this section they are going to see a topo map of our entire lease. On this map there is going to be various bits of info about the roads, runs, etc. If all this info was to be visible on the map at once it would be cluttered.

I am trying to figure out how to allow the visitor to turn on and off different pieces of info. For example they could see only roads or runs at a time. I am stuck when it comes to how to go about accomplishing this.

I could have an image (map) and page for roads and a seperate image and page for runs, so when a visitor chooses runs they go from land-lease-roads.html to land-lease-runs.html. THis is a bit cumbersome and I am sure there is a better way. This section is going to be quite extensive with aerial photos satellite images and ground photos. To do it this way would mean a lot of work that may not be nessicary.

I have started to read up on layers in html and can't figure out if this is going to work for what I am doing. I understand that layers can be turned on and off I just can't determine if this can be done client-side.

I would love to hear some suggestions from many of the talented folks here.

Maybe you can find something here?

I would get a program that is deisgned to do this rather than playing with the html. It can save you a lot of time and headaches. You can also search "layer maps" or find sites with similar maps and see how they are powered.
