Hi Everybody,

Let's get nosy, shall we? Smile

I thought it might be interesting to develop a general
idea how much money we are all making from affiliate
programs.

If you care to join this poll please express your affiliate
program income as "net income", that is, the amount
of money you get to keep after you pay all your expenses,
such as advertising, web hosting etc.

Gross income - expenses = Net Income

No need to call your accountant, your best guess will
be appreciated here. Smile

Thanks!

Phil

Phil, my site is 5 months in the SE's, took a couple months to get it online before that, did a major content overhaul in June from 25 pages to better than double. Was earning less than $100 a month, now just over $1,000 if things continue this month as projected. My only expense is the annual SBI fee of $299, so that's $25 month.

I'm looking at doubling the income on my current site within the next 6 months Smile and also building 2 more SBI sites in that time frame on different topics.

BTW I've tried earning online for about 5 years, and this is the best result I've ever had.

Sorry Phil, but this is one question I won't be answering! At least not now. Maybe I'll vote later, if I think I can hide annonymously! Laughing

But that doesn't stop me appreciating posts from people who dare bare all...

By the way Debs, if you don't mind me asking, does that figure include Adsense revenues or just affiliate program commissions? You seem pretty keen on AdSense, that's all. How about the growth figures?

I assumed Phil's question meant commissions from affiliate programs, or were Adsense commissions supposed to be included?

All the best,
Charlie.

An important point here about "net" income.

I have found with different small businesses and internet businesses that many folks miscalculate thier "net."

I have a friend that was doing well with affliates. Hitting 4k a month. He quit his job. He found that he was now eating all his net profit. Then he miscalculated his tax liability. He created quite a problem. Heck and he even had a profitable site.

Business is business is business.

I realize that many people do not have another sourcec of income outside of what they can tap from here. However, if you do, even if you hate it keep at it.

Jonar Nader of logictivity.com (author of How To Lose Friends and Infuriate people--and also the same title with "...and your boss") states that the two best jobs that you can have are

-the one you love
-the one you hate

both motivate you.

Point being not only do we need to educate ourselves with how to make the cash (marketing, Search Engines, affiliate stuff) but also how to keep it (tax law, business strategy, systems, law and structure).

I will tell you frankly that much of my money offline came from those that knew how to make money but never disciplined themselves to keep it.

Before I studied tax law, for instance, I was in a 37% tax bracket AFTER deductions.

I now pay 7.4%. Yet,i make about 6 times more.

Many other examples can be cited. However, the biggest statement is "Learn to keep and grow your income."

Then again, I could be wrong...

There's an interesting thread on the subject of "the entrepreneurial gene", motivation and part time online ventures here...

It's combined income on my site Charlie. I won't break it out because then people could figure out what I make with Adsense and that's against the TOS.

Insofar as taxes, etc. go, I'm an accountant and that's true net Smile

Hey Charlie, and others;

I'm not positive, but I think you can use the poll without leaving a post. Personally I know of no way to know who used the poll or what options they chose. So I think it's anonymous. Maybe our moderators can advise if polls are truly anonymous?

I'm not interested in how much this person or that person makes, but wanted to get a ballpark idea of how our community is doing in general.

Ooh, somebody says they're making more than $10,000 a month, good for them!

Also, for anyone who does want to post, thanks for talking in terms of Net income. It is of course possible to have a gross income of a million dollars a day and still lose money! Smile

Thanks for participating!

Fair point, but from my point of view, it would have been more interesting to have the proportions without the total. Adsense is something I have hardly tried, but I am now building a content site simply because of it.

That's the way, I understand things, too. The problem is, when I first posted, there were very few votes. As I was only the second person to post a reply, I didn't want anyone making assumptions (true or otherwise) about my income. Maybe I'll vote now, after all...

Two people have voted that option, now...

Neither of them is me, by the way. Wink

All the best,
Charlie.

Hello again.

As of now, 3 out of 12 people who voted say they make more than $10,000 per month from affiliate programs.

Mmm...

I'm not doubting that there are lurkers on this forum who do make that amount, but I very much doubt that 25% of the people registered do! Laughing

Are these 3 voters rich lurkers, or just jokers? Come on, post some comments, even if its anonymous. I need convincing...

All the best,
Charlie.

Debs,

You said this is the best results in 5 years of online business. What factors have helped you go from nothing, or $100 a month, to your current upswing?

Are there certain strategies that you have used that have helped your traffice or sales? What is helping your site growth, more traffic or the affilliate/Adsense programs?

Thanks!

Psiren,

My income has grown over the last few months with roughly the same proportionate percentage being Adsense, vs. affiliate links. I saw a nice increase in income by adding Adsense, but the biggest change is double the unique visitors from July to August.

As far as strategies? Understanding the concept of a content site, and using SBI, as well as finally finding out what affiliate programs were. Until last year I had no clue! I've had sites with great traffic, I've had a site with great sales and traffic but it devoured me, I dabbled in mini & micro sites and PPC, reminded me too much of the site I had 5 years ago. I wanted something with more freedom, more self-expression so I went to content sites. Considering how much I love to talk and write, I can't believe it took me so dang long!

This seems amazing to me...

I guess it just goes to show how we all came to the same place by very different routes. If someone with Debs' "web publishing" experience hadn't heard of affiliate programs til last year, think how many more people out there still need to be "educated"!

All the best,
Charlie.

Okay, I'm only a newbie (to the affiliate world AND to this forum) - but I've been publishing my online magazine for just over 3 years.

I only recently figured out that affiliate programs could do me more good than selling ad-space on my site and cluttering everything up with banners. I took down all the 'bought' banner ads and replaced them with AdSense and put up 'review' pages, some affiliate banners and put some in the email newsletters, too.

Now we've grown to around $500 per month net (total including AdSense, but after running/hosting costs)

So now I'm in a Learning Phase about how to make all this work. Yes, I have the AdSense towers on my site. I'm a ClickBank affiliate and a vendor. I'm also just figuring out CJ.com

I have a niche content-filled site (approx. 450 pages) and huge visitor numbers with plenty of external links from similar topic sites and great rankings on major search engines. I have an opt-in list.

Yet these people don't like to BUY anything!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

I'm guessing I'm bad with the sales letters.... Embarassed

Any clues as to how I can increase this SLOWLY growing income??

If you are getting the traffic, it must be a "most wanted response" problem...

Are you prepared to post your URL so we can have a look and offer opinions? It's impossible to comment usefully without knowing what you are doing. (You can PM me the URL if you'd rather.)

A couple of things do spring to mind...

Although traffic isn't the real problem, are you sure Google is indexing all your pages? It might be worth making a series of sitemaps (each with a max of 50 links and corresponding descriptions) and then submitting these to Google, so the spider can find all your pages itself.

Secondly, if you are concerned about sales letters for your own products, the best resource I've found is "Power Copywriting for the Internet" by Bob Serling. I haven't got a URL for it, but Paul Myers bought the digital rights a while ago, and if you email him, I'm sure he'll be happy to sell you a copy. His email is...

Paul AT talkbiz DOT COM

Sorry but I can't offer any more suggestions without seeing your site.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.
