Any one had experience with Globat web hosting? Is it good or bad? How are the AWStats web stastics, are they as good as they are made out to be by Globat?
Well, I think any type of question like this that requires one person to give an opinion about a server to another is gonna be questionable from the start, but here goes...
First, YES, I am a current Globat Customer and if you do decide to sign up based on my opinion, etc, please tell them that you are a referal from
....

Second, I'm gonna try an be as honest as I can, so if someone disagrees with my opinion, then please lets have an intelligent conversation, not break down into flames of "my host is better than yours", etc...
My web page that I'm hosting on Globat's Gigabit Package: [URL deleted]
This site is for our family in another state to get updates on our baby and pictures, etc... I'm not a great website builder, but I remember my basic HTML... It may not be pretty, but it works... I've been using Coppermine photogallery for a while and wrote them a letter about it... Within 2 months, it was rolled in as a standard feature on ALL their accounts... I thought that was cool... *(I'm not taking credit, but I definatly think they took the hint from my email, but you never know..)* I've had one outage so far, and it was for about 2-3 hours for a hardware failure... I don't think thats bad, but like I said, this is my first host...
Price is nice... I've only found one better, (10GB vs 2.5gb) for about the same price ($7.95/month paid annually) but I forget where it was... I'm sure you'll find it if you need to... The other cool thing is that I noticed they randomly run specials... Thanksgiving day was $1.99/m paid annually!!! and for the next 16 hours +/-, it is $3.99/m annually for the basical "GIGABYTE" package... (2.5 Gig, 75Gb band...) and you may get a camera or something tooo...
Is this good? Don't know... I'm usually leary about freebies, etc.. but a sale is a sale...
They ARE virtualized servers, so know that when you go into it... They also DO NOT DO ASP... OR ACCESS... and NO ANONYMOUS FTP... This is strictly PHP, Perl, CGI web sites etc... Shopping and Ecommerce packages are also available for more $$$, but I can't comment on them.
For my needs, it works fine... as for Space, that was the #1... With photos of the boy taking up space on the local cablemodem account, they froze me out when I went over 10MB... The two GRANDMA's want to be able to PRINT out hires pics... I needed more space, more bandwidth... Globat gave it to me, cheap...
Thats about all for the rambling, if you have any specific questions I can answer, let me know...
BTW... I like the AWStats... but once again, little to go on... I can drop a screen capture if you want... Maybe give you an idea what your looking at for the control panel, etc...
Once again the site is [DELETED] and is NOT ment to be fancy, just for our family...

I have 2 sites hosted with Globat, both my intenet radio site and my staff site for the same radio station. (we do not use them for streaming our signal)
I have been with Globat for almost a year and I have to say on a scale of 1 to 10 I would have to give them a 5.
There is really nothing special about this company, the service is middle of the road, I am not really impressed.
The actually service is middle of the road and to be honest I can't wait till the contract is up to move. I see a mover problem that they are over loading thier servers.
We run a PhP Post Nuke site and becaus eof over 1500 sites on the same server it runs like a snail on valium.
I will say it is reliable our down time has been next to nothing. And you get a lot of space and a nice amount of bandwidth.
If you need a lot of space for storage or basic HTML they will be good for you.
Again this is my personal opinion from being with them for almost a year. But I can assure you I am moving the moment our contract comes to an end.
I am here at this site for that reason looking for a great host.

So I had a website up for awhile. With globlat. Everything was fine, until I no longer wanted the site any longer. I received an email notifying me that I was going to be billed again for hosting services. Now mind you the domain had expired months prior.
So I did what was expected, I filled out the cancellation form on their site. I also contacted online support and they said I had not been billed, I thought all was well and good. THEN, weeks later I received an amail stating that I was billed and the money taken out of my account. Well, I sent them an email, since THERE IS NEVER AN ANSWER ON THE TELEPHONE IF THERE IS BILLING TROUBLE, and received an email back stating that the account was researched and that a refund would be processed. That never materialized.
Again, NO DOMAIN to host.... it expired months earlier.
Filled out the correct forms....
And they took the money anyway weeks later. Now I am out $90.00 for absolutly nothing, they did say in one of the emails that I would not be billed again in the future however. So I got that going for me. They wont take $90 next year for a domain that expied 16 months prior.
So I guess it all good unless you want to end your realtionship with them. Then it will cost you to not have them host anything.
Really mad since in the cyber world there is noway to recover anything once they have taken it from you
I have been with Globat for about 2 years now. I have not really had much problems with them. Actually, I don't think I have had none.
I only have 2 shared hosting accounts with them thought.
My main sites are hosted else where and are on dedicated servers for speed, space and bandwidth. _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs

Well, Just to set the record straight... I am No longer a Globat Customer... When I was pestered about renewing the contract MONTHS before it was actually up (when I would of renewed on my own..) I sent them a reply back asking if they had any incentives... ($$, Discounts, upgrade, etc..)
Now, Mind you this... I only asked because they had a GREAT deal for NEW members, and I would be charged my previous (much higher) amount and stuck at the previous (getting tight) space restrictions, etc...
I NEVER heard back... I asked the same Question in a support form AND a sales form... NOTHING.. Dead silence... Finally I got another email from the Auto renew again warning me that the end was approaching and that if I didn't take action I would be renewed at the current rate my contract was at. So I did something.
I did the only thing I could think that would elicite a human response for my action... I filled out the forms to close the account when the contract ended.
The NEXT DAY I had an email begging me to stay on and that I would be given some upgrade but at the old cost, not the new 1.99 or somesuch... So I emailed back about the poor attention to questions via their forms/email with support & Sales and I was given a reply that if I would renew they would include the Exclusive High Priority link for support.
Of course my reply to this was that ALL Support should be high priority for a paying customer of any type... And the FACT that they would distinguish it from one group to another just made it that much easier for me to leave.
I'm at GoDaddy now... Not the easiest interface to figure out, but Support HAS been great... Great cost/space ratio and more control over domain servers, info, etc..
I'd say if I had to rank I'd do it like this:
(1 -> 10)
Space/Cost - EASE of use - Support - uptime
Globat: 7 - 9 - 1 - 9
Godaddy: 9 - 4 - 9 - 10
Why a 10 vs a 9 in uptime? Globat would take it down occasionally.. They did send me email telling me that my server would be down, but it did come down.
I've had 100% uptime with GoDaddy so far... Even though HOSTING is not what they are known for, they are up..
BTW, if you have a TECH Question for Godaddy about PHP, Perl, etc... If you cant find it in the FAQ then their folks don't know it... They mostly just help set up the accounts/freebies/configureations/ect.. I was actually told I would be better off with google by the Tech when I asked a PHP Question...

sshimatzki is absolutely right in his second post. Globat cheats you when it comes to renewals and cancellations.
They renewed my hosting account 3 months prior to my actual renewal date. If you cancel at this point, they never refund the renewal amount, saying that the moneyback program is applicable for the initial promotional offer, as if you had initiated the renewal yourself. Most of the time, they ignore your emails if it is related to money transaction related grievances!
There is no online cancellation form in the control panel. You need to call them up! The cancellation option will lead you to a phone number.
They upgrade your account without your approval (They send an email stating that your account will be upgraded automatically if you do not inform them specifically otherwise!!! And you realize that there was an upgrade when you get your credit card statement!!!). The massive storage is a myth. When your inbox crosses a specific amount (I am sure this is less than 100MB), mail send to your account will bounce!!! If you think that you can keep all your important emails on the server, just forget it. They will lure you with lot of carrots when you actually cancel the account, such as free hosting for additional domains. And when you cancel this additional domain in the next year, the entire account gets cancelled! Horrible!!
I am not sure whether it is correct to say, but I had noticed a tremendous amount of spam messages coming to my email after switching to globat.
Read their terms and conditions (it is a mile long and difficult to interpret) carefully before you signup. Then you will realize the tricks behind the promotional offers.
Globat cheats you when it comes to renewals and cancellations.
Absolutely correct!
I used globat for a while too. However, the problems started when they shut down my site for a day claiming that the bandwidth usage had gone over the daily limit, this was very early in the morning and the limit was about 16 gigabytes. I checked the logs, and no email, no SQL, no ftp, and the http usage was only 5 megabytes. I asked them repeatedly over the course of several months to show me why my site was shut down and they continually ignored/dodged those requests.
I had originally purchased one hosting account, and then for $12 each had added a handful of other domain pointers to that hosting account.
When it came time for renewal, I had long since moved my sites to a different host because of their prior incompetence. So as soon as I got the cancellation notice I cancelled it, and got an email confirmation of the cancellation. On two occasions, one month and two months later, they tried to bill me for the other pointers. (Although thankfully that failed because I removed the card they were using to bill that account or I'd probably still be fighting for my money back.)
The pointers don't make any sense if they are supposedly pointing to an account that doesn't exist and are a "feature" on the main account. Yet they tried to bill me for these and tell me they were not all individually cancelled. (I guess if you cancel an order of a cheeseburger you had better make sure you cancel the bun, burger, cheese, and all the condiments individually lest you be billed for the uncancelled mayo.) After some argument they finally "discovered" that oh gee, these accounts really had been cancelled and they dropped the matter.
A year later I get notices that not only were these not cancelled, but my account is in collections, and they are still going to once again "renew" the account that is in collections. When I tried to tell them the account had been cancelled long ago, their response was to (bad cop) act like it was my job to research that and "prove" to them that I cancelled some service they never provided, and then (good cop) "do me a favor" by only charging me a $25 late fee and foregoing the additional $150 "breach of contract" fee that they are now claiming I owe them.
I finally had enough of it and filed a complaint with the FTC.

I have a shared hosting account with Globat and do use their AWstats. It works exactly like all other AWstat systems and provides very useful information regarding search engine indexing activities, web page hit data, source IP information, and error reporting to name just a few features. If you have used AWstats before it will be a familiar application for you.
I like the technical infrastructure used by Globat and from my own observations it renders excellent application & network performance. It would be nice to see Globat reports at Netcraft but that is not currently the case.
They are installing spam filters and until that is completed my email is being overloaded with junk. A few weeks ago they did sent me an email, which ordinarily I would have deleted as spam without reading it, saying they were going to "automatically upgrade" my account to have additional features but also with additional cost unless I replied to the email and requested not to be upgraded. This didn't sit to well with me.
Based on my experience I could easily recommend Globat. They sit about midway in the technology curve, which is quite good enough for my particular revenue generating site. Do be sure to do your requirements analysis to see if they offer everything you need.
