Recently Allan and Phil Wiley mentioned their concerns about linking out to "bad neighbourhoods", by letting people have links in their sig files.
Now Google (and others) are ignoring links with the "nofollow" value for the rel attribute of a link, if Allan decided to hard code all links in sigs to include the "nofollow" - meaning that you gained no link popularity boost from having a link from this forum - how would this affect your posting behaviour? _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Charlie, way back when ... before the URLs were displayed in the SEs, the same people posted about as much as they do now. Some new helpers have joined in, others have gone about their business elsewhere.
There has been no noticeable increase in activity (except by a spammer or three!) and those with genuine queries have, in most cases, been getting good, meaningful interaction with those who reply.
I do not see anyone grabbing space for a link boost. I posted a couple of sig. file URLs in a handful of messages but clicked "do not attach" for the rest as an experiment. I was amazed that a search for my sites immediately brought the Board messages to the top of the pile and my other links lower in the list. So I know it really works and works well. I then deleted the sig. file as I am not an Affiliate trader, just the machinating moderator.
I'm surprised that we haven't had a lot of messages posted just for that mileage. Particularly the blatant ad people. If they knew the power of their sig. file, they'd have one!! It is obvious that so many of the Ad submitters don't even read the guidelines, let alone follow them.
I guess I don't see the relevance of your survey. However, it will be interesting to see what our members say.
I frequent a lot of forums, and one of the best ones doesn't even provide for a sig line. I use forums mainly for information and networking. I especially like coming to AssociatePrograms because some days it's just such a relief to be around people who understand what you're talking about when you go on and on about PR, logfiles, CJ, keywords and checkin' those stats! _________________ Build Websites Quickly and Easily:

The issue just doesn't excite (you anywhere near as much as me)?
Perhaps it's time you just experimented with "nofollow" Allan. Maybe that would add a sense of reality to this (thrillingly) hypothetical scenario.
Cheers,
Charlie.
P.S. Perhaps the real question (touched on by "netadventures") is a little too ***** for most of us to face. Come on. Prove me wrong. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
