It certainly does!
I asked Jon about this, and here's his reply:
"Fortune does their homework and asked Google first.
"Google's obviously supportive as it gets more people interested in AdSense. I had a chat with someone from the AdSense team on the phone about what numbers I could share."
This is astounding - totally different from the treatment I've received from AdSense.
I added a few paragraphs to one of Rupert's SBI case studies and said that the site had earned X dollars "from affiliate commissions and AdSense".
Google wrote to me telling me I breaking the terms of agreement. I obviously wasn't. It was a ludicrous complaint because no one reading what I wrote could tell what proportion of the earnings came from AdSense and what proportion came from affiliate commissions.
I didn't want to offend AdSense, so I rewrote the sentence, removing any mention of AdSense.
This is an example of how careful you have to be.
Last time I checked, the AdSense Terms and Conditions said:
"Confidentiality. You agree not to disclose Google Confidential Information without Google's prior written consent. 'Google Confidential Information' includes without limitation: ... (b) click-through rates or other statistics relating to Site performance in the Program provided to you by Google..."
(I tried to visit the AdSense site to check just now, but I couldn't access the AdSense or AdWords pages.)
Perhaps Google is relaxing its policies slightly. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Allan,
Based on what you posted, it seems as if someone from Fortune contacted Google about interviewing Jon/an AdSense publisher for the article. Then someone from Google talked with Jon by phone about the details of statistics that could be disclosed.
That seems like a rather controlled situation (prior written consent) where Google might allow a bit of information to flow.
I can see why Google would want to be tough concerning the discussion of AdSense stats. There are a lot of people who will take a mile if you give an inch.

Just like a few weeks ago when AdSense introduced the "Tell a Friend" feature, I see this as a positive. Google actively trying to recruit more AdSense publishers tells me there is a more than adequate inventory of ads for publishers.

I think one of the 'secrets' of mobiletracker's traffic success was making it a MovableType blog. I first stumbled across the site back in the summer when it was starting out. Every time the site is updated it gets publicized & recorded on the front page of Movabletype.org
Some other blog softwares do similar but I doubt he'd get the same volume of traffic without MT. |

The site just relaunched. It looks like Jon spend some of his earnings to a designer. Neat layout.

That might have helped. But I rather think the secret ist the vast amount of pages. Currently are 6.790 pages indexed by Google.

I wonder how much all this discussion of mobiletracker has benefited www.mobiletracker.com as opposed to mobiletracker.net?

I have been there twice by accident
That was funny. I was on the site and thought -- hm -- I am wrong. I tried the .net address and thought -- hm, wrong? -- no! Relaunched!

Here's something interesting.
Take a look at www.mobiletracker.com Notice the layout of the page.
Now - there is a man named Clinton Anderson who trains horses. He promotes a website www.clintonanderson.net which actually just redirects to his actual site.
But, if you try the dotcom version - www.clintonanderson.com - notice how the layout appears to be almost just like the www.mobiletracker.com site.
Is someone registering dotcom versions of dotnet sites and benefiting from the accidental traffic?

They are owned by Domain deluxe.
Those aren't sites, per se, all they are doing is spitting out search results, probably from a pay-per-click search engine. _________________ Robert

Ok, I must be missing something. I just visited Mobiletracker.net and can't find any Adsense ads.

Looks as though Jon has switched to graphical ads.
On the second page I checked...
mobiletracker.net/archives/cat_nokia.php
...I found a bright, colorful ad with a tiny "Ads by Goooogle" (or however many o's it is) under it. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Ah, thanks. Actually it's a text ad again as seen from here. The ads must rotate between text and graphic.
And I see them on the home page now, they are so blended in, you really don't see something that looks like an ad. Nice work. _________________ Free Email Discussion Group For Your Site

I wonder how long Google is going to keep all those "ooooo"'s in Google?

It's a different matter altogether posting in blogs, You tend to rely less on keyword research and more on providing useful info in your niche. _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |
