Happy new year to everyone. I hope you had a good one.
I have been working on my web site, and am now at the stage of needing a reliable UK web host. My site ins't huge so web space not vital, but a decent monthly data transfer would be nice.
Any help or advise would be greatly accepted. |

Why limit yourself to a host in the UK?
Just a thought,

| I was just thinking about any future support I might need, or if I need to contact by phone. |

All things being equal, these are important factors, but you have to balance this against restricting your choice.
To be honest, I'd buy hosting on recommendation. Realise that free telephone support is pretty limited. You're better off going for a highly regarded host, irrespective of location.
If they happen to be in the UK, all the better, but once you're set up, support should be minimal if you choose wisely.
Just my opinion,
Charlie.
P.S. I'm in the UK, but all my hosts have been in North America. I've only ever used the phone twice in 7 years (and one was incoming). _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

you mentioned about personal recommendations. Who is your preffered nosting company now?
I don't know about advertising on here, so if it's not allowed you can always PM me the company.
I need to get this next step off the ground and get moving forward. This is my next stumbling block.
It's like any new skill or venture though, the first one is the hardest because your learning new skills and finding the reliable information sources, once you have them it becomes more focused on building the theme and content of a site I would imagine. |

Hello again.

It depends what kind of site and who's going to be doing the building.

Do you imagine you'll have the most fun coding and scripting or creating content? I'd pick a method that helps you have as much fun as you can, while still building the business you want.
My opinions about SBI for people like me (if you can find any) are "well documented". "Interesting personal challenge" is one way of summarising it. But you aren't like me and probably never want to be...
Your challenge may well be the mechanics of getting a site up and running in a way that helps your marketing efforts rather than compromises them.
Why not contact Sitesell support and ask them if the SBI Action Guide is available for free? (It used to be, but they've just brought out a new one.)
If it isn't, you could always buy SBI on 30 day approval (with no risk) and get the guide that way. The new version is much improved (if long overdue) and the SBI Forums are outstanding...
The worst thing is that you would lose 30 days' interest and learn a good method.
Hope this helps,
Charlie.
P.S. I'm not trying to take the easy way out...
If you are still unsure, PM me some details of what you have in mind for your site and what you think is holding you back. Without that, any thing I say is a shot in the dark. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Personally, I use 1and1.com (they do have a UK service also).
But like Charlie said, most of the hosting depends on what you want. Different hosts offer different packages, and nobody but yourself can tell you what is best. We can offer advice, but w/out knowing what you need, it is just a shot in the dark. _________________ Eric D. Burdo |

Hi - did you get your web hosting sorted out? If not, we'd be delighted to custom-build a package for you, if you let me know the space and bandwidth you need. We have UK and US server space available and are happy to help.
PM me if you need more information.

Very good and very reliable UK hosting. Got to get used to the whole "forum" thing though...
Good Luck,
