Post subject: Page Rank but little Google traffic

I have a site that gets about 1,000 visitors a day. It has a Google Page Rank of 4/10 and just under 200 pages indexed by Google.
The majority of my daily traffic comes from Yahoo! (about 80-85%) and only about 2-3% from Google.
Is that necessarily unusual?

I find the following tends to be the case for one of my sites:
Stats for traffic from different search engines in the same period of time...
Source Number of visitors
- MSN 189
- Google 83
- Yahoo 91
- Tiscali 10
- Unknown search engines 6
- Ask Jeeves 5
- InfoSpace 3
- MetaCrawler (Metamoteur) 3
- AltaVista 3
- AOL 2
- Mamma 2
- Netscape 1
- Lycos 1
- Overture 1
- Dogpile 1
- DMOZ 1
- Ask Jeeves UK 1
So, my situation is that MSN loves the site more than the others right now.
However,
The time I Last checked before that, these were the stats:-
- Google 190
- Yahoo 65
- Ask Jeeves 32
- MSN 23
- Unknown search engines 18
- AOL 16
- Find Articles 5
- Ask Jeeves UK 4
- AllTheWeb 2
- Excite 2
- Lycos 2
- Dogpile 2
- Mamma 1
- AltaVista 1
- Alexa 1
So, don't take one snapshot as a reason to think things won't change.

The goss SEO-wise is that Google places a lot more importance on PR and incoming links than Yahoo! - whereas Yahoo! places a lot more influence on on-page factors than Google.
Of course no one knwos this for sure so it's just speculation.

What you have to compare are search engine rankings for both Yahoo and Google. It seems fairly evident you have much better rankings in Yahoo. |
