Hi,
As i said before, i was trying to analyze my ranking drop in MSN. Here is what i found out. Be warned that this is my thoughts why my rank dropped. It may not be the actual cause. I was able to test it only with a keyword i was ranking well. Be warned that this may or may not be accurate. I guess that would do for a disclaimer  .
Here are various things i found common with top 10 pages. Many of these numbers had exceptions, but there seemed to be a pattern here, so i am listing them.
1. Keyword prominence in title was around 65% to 80% compared to my 15%. It looks like the kwd prom need to be around 65% t0 75%.
2. The keyword weight was around 45% to 65% in top 5 and 20% to 35% in the next 5. So it looks like keyword weight may need to be around 40% to 45%. Mine was 85%
3.It was interesting to note that 7/10 pages did not have meta keywords tag. This included the top 5. Looks like inktomi may not be considering meta keywords.
4. Meta description kwd weight was around 15% to 25%. It may or may not be instrumental in ranking. But a better meta desc will help visitors to understand about your page since it is used by many engines to describe your page.
5. 6/10 pages had a kwd prom of 45% to 55%. Two of them had around 35%, mine was 65%. Pattern is around 45% to 55%
6. kwd weight was in a broad range, but many were in 20% to 35% range.
7. 7 pages had keywords at the end of body. 8 pages had keywords at the begining of page.
8. Interestingly 8 pages did not have h1 tags or any heading tags for that.
9. kwd prom in link text in page was around 40% to 50% range.
10. kwd weight in link text in page also was in a broad range, but was many were in 25% to 35% range.
11. 8 pages did not have kwd as part of link url.
12. 7 pages did not have kwd in alt tags, 6 did not have any alt tags.
13. Overall page had a kwd prom of 20% to 25%
14. overall kwd weight also varied a lot, but many were in 20% to 35%.
15. 3 pages had kwd repeats.
16. Many domains did not have many back links.
I used only one keyword only and hence these may not be accurate. But then, there seems to be a pattern here. If anyone had a top 10 ranking in msn that has dropped now, send me the keyword and your page that ranked well. I will try to get more accurate results.
I will soon be testing a page. I will let you know the results then.
