Post subject: I hate to do this: 1 and 1 hosting services

I had a real bad experience with 1and1.com hosting. They locked an account I've had with them for a while over a charge for $5.88. I tried to pay the stupid thing 3 times but there system wasn't working so I was unable to make the payment. Trust me I'm no Donald Trump but I have the 5.88 in my account .
Anyway the real problem was trying to fix the problem. No replies to my emails. No one answers the phone. Then bang they shut it down. The only notice that I got was the automated messages that they could not process the order. Fortunately for me it was a staging area and I didn't have any commercial sites running on their server. I did lose a lot of work that I've done though that wasn't on my hard drive or on another box somewhere.
I just thought I would warn other webmasters. At least in my case they didn't seem to care at all rather I stayed a customer or not. If I had had a business running on that domain I would be in real trouble.
The kicker is I even said I'm going to go to all the forums I visit and leave a message about my experience and still not even a form letter response. Now I know they really don't care since it was this forum where I found the link and signed up.
Draw you own conclusions just a FYI.

Yes,
I have tried calling them. And really they should be able to handle it by email. I don't need another reason to spend time on hold dealing with tech support.
As an update. I recieved another debit declined notice and the hosting account was restored. I'm not sure how that works, but I can only assume that they will disable the account again since I have recieved no responses to the several emails I've sent them.
Anyway, maybe you can contact them on the phone and let them know that they have some sort of bug with their payment system and at least some emails are slipping through the cracks somewhere.
Just respond to my emails in a timely matter and I'm happy. Even if the email says your a pain in the but go away, at least I know what's going on

Hello,
In all fairness I wanted to post an update. They were able to process the payment yesterday and the account is again up and running. They said that they take care of things on first in first out basis. I'll assume they were a little busier than normal.

in the past few months they have done 2 major promotions, and picked up over 100,000 new accounts.Plus they added new features and services. Customer service reps are probably a little stressed out due to extra load.
Overall,an excellent company.
Why am I promoting them instead of my own web hosting company????????

| I have been with 1&1 (Europe version) for years and they are head and shoulders above any other host I have used. Having said that they did once suspend my account becaue my credit card expired and I forgot to update it with them. No e-mail from oneandone telling me about the problem, just BAM. All sites down. |

Hi All,
Comes to show once again the importance of proper customer service.
In my opinion, not reacting on e-mail is not acceptable. If they have a severe backlog, all e-mails should get an autoresponse to inform the user, and offer possible choices for those who really have priority needs.
All the best,
Erwin

I signed up when they were offering 3 years free hosting.
It was worth every penny I paid. _________________ Have you seen this bonus offer? |

Does anyone find their admin pages.. i.e email, applications etc, excessively slow ? Or is it just me ? My site is fine, but using their tools is painful.

1and1's interface can be excruciatingly slow and awkward but to date I have had quick responses to email and support issues... I have over 45 domains that I've purchased there.. no hosting.. I have some complaints but they're relatively minor and nothing I can't live with. _________________ - Dave in Carthage
