Hi everyone,
I had a small question regarding google PR.
Before I move my domain to a paid host I use the full url including www, and when I am at the new host they provide my domain( same domain name) url without the www.
When I see my site with the full url i.e with www my PR is 2/10 and 0/10 when I open my site without the www.
With the new host, I coded my url domain without the www, do I need to change all back with www?
And also the last SE submittion I still submit the full url with the www.
Thanks |

If you can access your site either way, just continue to submit your pages all one way. Also, make sure the link that others use to link to you (link exchanges) also use the same way to link to you that you submit.
For example:
If you submit www.domain.com then have your reciprocal sites link to www.domain.com
Google is in the process of resolving all domain.com www.domain.com with and without ending slashes "/" to www.domain.com/ so at some point in time, from what I hear, the pagerank would be the same for all variations. Not sure how long this will take with over 3 billion listings, or even if it is a high priority. But since it is being worked on, I wouldn't go back and change anything, so long as people can get to your site either way.
If you can only access your site one way ... either domain.com or www.domain.com then you may want to check with your host about adding the other variation to resolve to your site. This should be nothing more than a simple entry for them, or you, depending on your host and server configuration. Most inexperienced webmasters don't realize you can make this change very easily and your host should be able to guide you with no problem.
Nothing frustrates me more than typing in domain.com and getting a site not found error. I do take the time to retype www.domain.com but I can imagine there are a lot of others who don't and assume you are no longer online. I would imagine the same could be said if people always type www.domain.com and you can only be reached by domain.com
Hope this helps,

Debs I agree with the importance of getting both versions up and running, but...

If it's quicker typing you're after, try this trick...
To get http://www.domain.com just type "domain" and then press enter (return) while holding down CTRL. That fills in all the other bits, including the .com and automatically loads the page into the browser.
Anything to do it the easy way!
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Wow, Charlie, fabulous tip ... thanks! Shamed to say I never knew that and have never, in all my long years online, ever seen it mentioned!
