Hi everybody, this is my first post here.

I have been building sites according to James Martell's system for a while now and I'm very satisfied with my results so far. I have noticed though that for some reason my sites do a lot better in Yahoo and MSN than in Google. I'm getting hundreds of visitors a day from Yahoo and only about a few from Google. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Thats pretty normal for a new site. Are you optimisng for fairly competitive keyword phrases?

Most of my sites do better in Yahoo than Google too. From what I understand, Yahoo's algorithm is similar to Google's algorithm from about a year ago, with somewhat more weight put on keyword text in the URL and title.

I have 7 sites total. While some of them are new, others have been online for more than a year now and still don't have good Google rankings. With most of these sites I am not targeting competitive keywords. James Martell's methods do work very well for Yahoo, and my income from these sites is great (mostly from Adsense).

What would you define as competitive?

I agree--probably has something to do with the sandbox.

Well, most of the sites in the Google SERPs that rank well for these keywords don't have a very high PR (about PR4-5).

As for the sandbox, yes, I have heard of it, but shouldn't a site that is more than a year old be out of the sandbox by now?

Dont just base rankings off PR - there's alot more to ranking well than just getting high PR.

It should. It depends though, when did you begin optimising the site and start getting links? I am of the belief the sandbox is a link age thing.

I started getting links for this site in February 2004 (I think). So it's actually a little less than a year ago. Still a long time though. This site now has a PR of 5 and about 50 high PR backlinks. It gets maybe 2-3 visitors a day from Google....

Many SEOs say that sites launched after March 2004 were affected, so really you wouldnt have obtained many links before then. Just stick to your guns and you'll get there.

Thanks, I will. Do you know how long the sandbox usually lasts?

If you have worked hard enough on optimisation you should begin to start seeing good results within 3-6 months for fairly competitive terms. For more obscure phrases you should rank well within a much shorter time frame.
