I read somewhere that the Firefox browser has a feature called "AdBlocker" that allows the user to block ads - including AdSense ads.

Does anyone know if this is accurate?

I use Firefox and didn't see anywhere you could "block" ads ... but you can manage whether to accept cookies in various ways.

Maybe there is a Firefox extension that blocks ads, it does have a popup blocker however.

Yes, there is a ad blocker extension for FireFix... called AdBlock. It will block flash, iframes and a few other things. You can specify what you want blocked, and what you do not.

Most people do not block AdSense, since it isn't that intrusive, but it could happen. I frequently use AdBlocker to block all the annoying flash banners.

Are the ad blocking and cookie blocking features of FireFox default settings or does someone actively have to go looking for these features?

In other words, if someone gave Ms. Jones a computer for Christmas with FireFox installed at the default settings, would her computer block any ads or cookies?

You have to actively choose to block the cookies and / or ads that you don't want to see.

The AdBlock extension is really quite nice for blocking those annoying ads. It will also block images from specified hosts as well.
