My experience is that it isn't working for my site. I have read it isn't working, but I see big sites using it.

So it works for them?

Has anyone experiences with these scripts?

I have enough mail links in my referrels to know I do get some traffic from these scripts, but unless your site is utterly cool or newsworthy, I wouldn't expect a lot.

I did see someone doing a directory recently who offered free links but (and you didn't find this out til the end) he insisted you put 5 friends' email addresses in to tell them about the site before you could be listed. Interesting tactic, though I admit it irked me a bit. I did do it but just used 5 of my own addresses... I dont bug my friends with links to directories, sorry.

I have that script in my ezine and, occasionally, 1-2 every other week, I get some subsribers (I track it so I can tell). Not many, but ..... Wink "they're free"!

I have friends for whom it works much better. They have been at this longer than I hae, so their ezines have "reputations".

So in answer to your question, "it does work".

It is just that it work really well for some and not as well for most...... yet.

Over time it will start working better for you.

Good luck to you,

I think they don't work in general; at least, "tell a friend about this website" doesn't work.

Once I do the next major reorganization of my site to a database-driven system, I'm going to create small links next to all my pictures (my site's main feature is a gallery of photos of stream insects) to "Email this picture to a friend." I think that may work a lot better. We'll see.

It seems that in general the site that seem to be successful with tell-a-friend are the ones with a small piece of really cool content that actually goes out in the email to the friend, rather than just "hey go see this site."
