Just looking at web hosting packages at the moment for my first site and I'm a bit confused, hope some one can offer some help.

Looking at this package, but I don't know whether 100mb is enough or whether 1.5gb of data transfer per month is enough.

Starter:-

100 MB of web space for ?1.59? per month!
1500 MB data transfer (bandwidth) per month.
CGI/Perl Script enabled.
On-line file manager and full FTP access.
15 mail boxes (POP3).
Free WebMail.
Webalizer graphical web statistics (click to try).
Add FrontPage Extensions for ?25 per year.
Unlimited e-mail forwarding addresses.

All this for just ?1.59? per month!

Any advise much appreciated

My first site was almost 200 pages and the total space it uses is about 3MB. 100MB should be lots if you're not adding a lot of graphics or multimedia to the site.

As far as bandwidth, if your site is successful (as I'm sure you're hoping Very Happy ) you could pass the 1500MB mark, but I'm sure it would take a while.

When I initially started setting up my sites, I looked at some of the lower cost hosts as well. I ultimately settled on iPower.com for my hosting. They're about $100 USD per year for each of my sites but I have had reliable service from them. The way I look at it is I would rather spend a little more on a host that I know I can rely on. There may not be anything wrong with the host you're looking at, or any of the other low cost hosts, but I would hate to go through all the effort to get my site ranked and building traffic only to have someone get an error when they click my site.

There are quite a few web host review sites (just Google "web host review" for a long list). I would take a look at some of them and see if the host you're considering has any comments - good or bad.
