Hi Everybody,

I have two websites running adsense ads and I'm doing quite well with them. I put up a new Halloween website last week and it's already getting alot of traffic from directories and it is rated in the top 5 for common Halloween search terms. (Yeah, I'm happy, and it's not even picked up by Google yet.) Smile

I was wondering about putting adsense on this site, but it has some urban legends and scary stories. Will the words like "dead," "blood" etc. trip some content filters and disallow me from the program? I've read the TOS, etc., but am still not clear.

I've thought about adding the ads to all pages, only the pages that I don't think have "bad" words, or not putting them up at all and just putting up a few individual affilate ads. It's not worth it to me to get banned just from a seasonal website, which may have answered my own question -- however, I've noticed adsense an a few other Halloween sites, but wasn't paying attention at the time to their exact content. I can't seem to find the sites now.

Anyway, does anybody have any experience on this, or any thoughts? Should I e-mail Google and ask them?

One other thing, it has it's own domain but is on a free server. If it were not a seasonal site, it would be on paid hosting. I may end up going to paid in the end if I have a bandwidth problem, but for now, it's free. (I think it is well designed, of course, Very Happy and not the type you would expect to see on a free server.)

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You wouldn't get banned for posting Adsense. If the content of your site "triggers" on blood, dead, etc. then you would see Public Service ads, for which you don't get paid, instead of targeted context ads.

On pages where PSA's show, you could do the affiliate links (just make sure they don't mimic the Adsense ads per the TOS & FAQ). Or, if you think certain pages are likely to trigger the PSA's just go ahead with your affiliate links on those pages.

Great job on hitting the traffic stream so quickly, and good luck Smile

Hope this helps,
Debs

I was hoping you'd reply. I've seen your other posts and think they're very helpful. Now I understand the ads more.

Anyway, this is my third try replying to your post. I'm having problems. First time, it just kept coming back to this window, last time locked my browser. It says user name already taken so I put in "guest" this time - I'll try again. I want you to know I appreciate your input and my other replies were more detailed, but I'm getting tired of trying to repost.

Please look at the last part of my original post on the own domain/free server issue. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks again,
iwillow

So long as it has its own domain, and you don't get popups from the freeserver, then for a seasonal site it would be fine. If your host likes to popup or under, you won't quality for Google Adsense though.

Sites like Geocities, etc. that have that little window on every page will get you rejected by Adsense. If this is what you have, I am sure you can find low cost hosting for around $5 or so a month. I tried a few ... some were good, some weren't. With halloween coming, and your traffic as it stands, you may want to forgo Adsense, and go with affiliate links, if you have the pops.

And thanks for the compliment. I am glad to help. Smile

Thanks Debs,

My current host for this site is Netfirms. No popups or unders. They just display a banner at the top. I will think this through and make a decision. Thanks for the input, you've been really helpful. Smile

Kindest Regards,
