Post subject: Asking link trade by mail

Is it allowed to send a personal letter by mail to the site administrator to ask for a link trade? I want to use this method, because nowadays it is nearly impossible to send emails.
Some marketers encourage this method, but is it legally allowed? _________________ NeedForInfo.com

Dear Mister ...,
Your site (other site name) has been added to (my site name), because it provides useful information for the surfer.
This is the description:
bla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla bla
Would you be so kind to put a link back to (my site name) or any other page your surfers can benefit from on your site?
Thanks in advance,
my name
Site administrator
my site name
P.S.: Linking to each other is beneficial for both parties, because it increases the rankings in the search engines. Using anchor text links is an even better way to get more search engine traffic. You can find out more about this topic at:

Please contact me at (my site name) if you?re interested in exchanging anchor text links. _________________ NeedForInfo.com

Why would it be illegal?
Go for it. _________________ Robert

Not much point pal if you're going for Wally as I don't participate in affiliate sites.
Allan is too busy keeping the answers flowing here for private requests of that kind - but why not put your link request in the Link Partners Forum where everyone can reply, including Allan, if your site is relevant.
So shout your details - not too loudly - in the link section. Who knows how many will respond!

I find calling the site owner has a good success rate. More often then not, the site owner doesn't just have one website he/she operates, so in a result of that one phone call, I have received several backlinks from his/her various network of sites.
My biggest score to date was 90 sites.
If the site doesn't display a phone number, you can also use Whois to find out the Administrator or Owner of the site. _________________ 2009 Insider Secrets

I think you have misunderstood me. I am not trying to exchange links here. I do have an internet marketing related site, but for now I am focusing on expanding my car site.
I believe the best way asking for a link trade, is by sending a real letter. This way you are sure the message gets delivered and the site administrator will be flattered with such a personalized letter probably.
The only question I have: is it legal.
I have got the impression now it is, so I can start sending my letters.
This is a lot of work, but I think having incoming links is invaluable. _________________ NeedForInfo.com

You would really need to look at your ROI (Return on Investment). Instead of sending e-mail (free) or calling on the phone (various small price), you plan on sending snail mail which costs money. If you send out a 100 letters at $.37 your at $37.
You have other things to consider, like are their addresses valid? If you're going off of Whois, I wouldn't. I know several webmasters that input fake addresses or just list the hosting companies info. It's good in theory...personalization of the letter, something they can hold in their hand, call to action, but will they receive, read it and add your link? _________________ 2009 Insider Secrets

Voasi,
that's what I am going to find out by doing it. I don't expect lot's of links back, but I do think it it impossible to calculate the value of an extra incoming link. _________________ NeedForInfo.com

If you're writing individually crafted emails which make it obvious that you really have visited the site and know what you're talking about, that's acceptable to most webmasters.
Here's an article I wrote describing how to do it:
