The $300 a month target is very conservative. If that's all you earn, you've done something "wrong". You haven't chosen profitable keywords carefully enough, you haven't built enough keyword-rich pages, you haven't learned the basics of optimizing pages for search engines, or you haven't got enough good quality links to your site.
That's the wonderful thing about this business. You can make lots of mistakes and still earn useful money. Just don't make TOO many mistakes.

While we are talking about Adsense I was just wondering if Adsense pays us for the Ad that they also have within the Adsense ads when ever it is clicked on.
Why I ask this is because I have noticed that they also are advertising their Adsense program within the Adsense ads aswell as displaying the "Ads by Goooooooooogle" text on the Adsense ads.

I agree. Great post Allan. There is simply no need to try to "force" our visitors to click on the ads. The ads provide value to our visitors and they will click on them if they are presented in the right way. Each market can be different and testing is the key.
The biggest factor in increasing your revenues from Adsense is to STOP guessing at what works and what doesn't.
I have found that with in depth tracking of my sites Adsense performance I can make changes in hours not days or weeks and actually see whether or not that change helped my clickthru rate.

Allan, thanks for this great post! It encourages me to work harder . And if 300 is a modest figure, it means that by October next year, I?ll make a few thousands dollars per month  . I printed your post, so that I can read it every time I need to do so.
And also, I liked your remark:
