Has anyone ever gotten this error when publishing their website..... with Frontpage?
"The server unexpectdley closed the connection?
I have been having this problem for a while and am getting no help from the hosting company, (Igrowyourbiz) so I don't know if it is them or me. I traded a domain name for a year of hosting and am finding out how wonderful they really are in customer support:)
Also does anyone know of any decent hosting companies?
Over the years I have used H4P, 3rdsphere, Yahoo and a few others but am still looking for good ones at a decent price with control panel and email options.
Yes Kurt, it means the Frontpage extensions on the server were corrupted and need to be reset.
If you are allowed to reset them yourself, fine, if not your host has to do it.
Check around your Control Panel and see if you can find anything on FP Extensions and resetting them.
FP Extensions can be corrupted easily if you FTP to your account and work with cgi, delete files, etc. outside of the FP publishing protocol.

Hi Debs
Thanks for the info.
I talked with the owner and he said that he does not have FP extenstions on his server, which makes me wonder how I ever published the website in the first place. He was no help and offered no suggestions.
So I
Downloaded a copy of WS_FTP Pro and got the same god blessed message. So I am still at a loss.
not really, but are you using any proprietary features of FP?
like borders ... their dhtml javascript menu ... the FP code for forms?
these things could cause the same problem
Don't understand why you would get the error with an FTP program however ...
Your host should be able to offer assistance to get your FTP program to work, not with the program itself, but verifying that you are inputting the right info into the program to access your account
You might want to try a search on Google for the error message you received, leave frontpage out of the search entirely and see what info you can find

Here's a couple...
Lexiconn (who offer Urchin Stats, amongst other things) and Pair Networks. I have used Lexiconn - excellent support, and know a couple people who are more than happy with Pair.
Interestingly, neither of these hosts used to have an affiliate program (though I think Lexiconn might have now - don't quote me). Maybe that's why they don't get mentioned much - at least not publicly.
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Kurt,
I use frontpage 02/03 for all my websites and I have found http://www.powweb.com to be a pretty good host. At $7.77 a month, it isn't the cheapest I've seen on the web, but their customer support and Admin pages are excellent.
They have Frontpage 02 Server Extensions installed on all of their servers so you shouldn't have a problem. You have some great e-mail options, like blacklisting websites, forwarding and some others. The one e-mail feature they don't have is an autoresponder .

When I get this message trying to publish, it usually means I have lost connection to the Internet. Make sure you are online before posting. Of course, this is probably irrelevant since your hosting Co. doesn't have FP Server Ext. _________________ Free Software builds pages of content over time! - Claim it here SpywareBlockingSite.com for Sale - $149
