Post subject: Web site building and hosting service
|
|
|
I have decided to bite the bullet and develop a website for promoting my favourite hobby.
I know that Site Build it is available but I do not want to spend USD 300 in one hit.
Can anyone advise me of a monthly web host, domain registration service which also provides a WYSIWYG web site development tool.
Thanks |

Doing it yourself is cheaper, but a little harder. worth it in the long run as you can build more and more sites with the same tools, but the opinions are varied on this board, so I won't start it again
someone will certainly mention Homestead which I haven't looked into much, but has some good recommendations.
I put it together piece by piece which isn't too hard.
Domain registration at www.godaddy.com ... $8.95, excellent interface/reputation.
cheap hosting is available a lot of places. Figure $1-3 per month, but make sure that you get web logs and other features you might need. (PHP cgi-bin etc). I use www.ucvhost.com they're in India, but have fine service and support. There are others as good or better I'd imagine.
WYSIWYG editors are a little tougher, you can use Mozzilla's composer for free though, a description/tutorial is at http://www.thesitewizard.com/gettingstarted/mozillacomposer1.shtml
or SiteSpinner for $50? or so. I use NetObjects Fusion $105, but that's personal taste. There are probably other free or cheap editors too.
You'll need an FTP program, that's for transferring files to your web host. I use seagull FTP which is a nice simple program, also free. It's like cute FTP, but it's FREE.
I prefer Wordtracker (use the free trial) to the SBI / Overture word searches.
Good luck! |

Richie,
I'd give Homestead a shot if I were you. You'll have so much more flexibility in design, as well as SEO. You can try it free with their trial period, and the trial period requires NO CREDIT CARD.
If you really get at it for 30 days, you'll get a feel for what you can and can't do with their service. Then you can decide whether the service is right for you and whether you want to pay for it or not.
Also, in my experience, this tool http://conversion.7search.com/scripts/advertisertools/keywordsuggestion.aspx is much better than any other free tool out there. In fact, I built my business around the keywords I generated for that tool.
$300 up front is a little steep for someone new to the business. Desperate people do desperate things though, but I in no way think it's a "Bad" product. I just know of its SEO limitations and that my friend is a SERIOUS area to be limited in.
Let me know if you need help getting some of your keywords in the top 5 at Google within a few weeks. And no, please don't give me the keywords "buy a pc online", "website hosting", etc. okay
Good Luck

Richie, in any decision you make, just remember that when SpamHater says that, he's describing a product he hasn't used.
In contrast, we use it, and we love the No.1 and No.2 rankings we get in Google. It's provable results that count.
We even tell you what those keywords are so you can check for yourself. Here are our articles on it:
http://www.AssociatePrograms.com/search/site-build-it.shtml
http://www.AssociatePrograms.com/search/affiliate-programs.shtml
I wouldn't be at all surprised if eventually someone more experienced knocks us off those No.1 and No.2 spots. After all, they were achieved by a newbie
Hope that helps. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Richie,
"Richie, in any decision you make, just remember that when SpamHater says that, he's describing a product he hasn't used."
Why so offensive there, Allan.
You'd be surprised to know how wrong you really are.
A quick trip to "grokster.com" brings up any "free" copy of SBI to anyone who wants it.
I guess you think I'm an idiot or something. I'm not sure. I thought you were wiser than that. Well, now I know.
Kinda like the "cop" syndrome, as they deal with scum all day, they think everyone is scum. Deal with newbies all day; you think everyone is a newbie.
Not sure what your trip is here, Allan. One thing for sure, you sure have some doubts about your bread and butter.
My advice, try mainstream affiliate marketing. Trying getting your site listed under the "widget" of your choice. No, not your fictitious "puppet" Rupert, you. Yes you, Allan.
Besides that, give it a rest. If the POS were so good, it would sell itself. It wouldn't take 500 pages of hype, 700 e-mails a year and a msg board to sell.
I placed my stats for all to see, regarding some recent keywords I optimized for. That was conveniently deleted.
Funny?

You're jumping to conclusions again, and getting it wrong. 70% of my income these days comes from affiliate-driven sites other than AssociatePrograms.com. _________________ Allan Gardyne

As anyone who has actually USED SBI knows, it's partly downloadable software, largely web-based system. Illegally sharing files wouldn't enable you to use the product. It's a lot more sophisticated than that. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Allan,
"70% of my income these days comes from affiliate-driven sites other than AssociatePrograms.com."
Really? What products to you sell online, other that "how to" books or "how to this" or "how to that"?
You're a great guy, Allan, but do you really market shoes, lamps, dsl, cell phones, etc.? Really? Tell us a product, please.
" it's partly downloadable software"
Allan, are you saying there is software that is not downloadable?
You had better do your homework before you answer that one.
Again, nice board you have. Don't mind trading jabs either. I truly hope you make more sales as we scrap.
Best Wishes!

Hi Mr. Spamhater,
I do not know you or Allan, but I come here as a visitor to Allan's home (messageboard).
As a welcomed guest, I will not "diss" Allan. If I do not like him or his products, I will just leave the messageboard.
But to constantly barrage the board with your complaints, and doubting Allan's integrity is just plain unprofessional and rude.
Do not underestimate the intelligence of newbies, not all are stupid, and can see through scams without your constant attack on Allan. And I believe Allan provides a true, valuable service.
Again, I do not know you or Allan, just what I am reading on this board.
Joel M.
P.S. Allan keep up the good work, I am learning a lot from you. How you are keeping your cool when a guest (spamhater) disrespect's you is beyond me. |

Joel,
Yes, do everything Allan tells you. Tell your friends to also.
Remember, he has a beach home and a reputation among fellow "get rich on the internet" book writers to keep up with.
He'll appreciate all the money you send his way, I am sure.
Remember me in 2 years when your money, your hopes of any internet affiliate marketing career, and you pride are washed away, right on the footsteps of a beach home in Australia, Allan's home. He thanks you for your money.
Keep getting the advice. Take it as gospel.

Richie - I build all my sites from the ground up - hard coding HTML etc. so haven't tried any of these "web design in a box" style solutions such as SBI! and therefore can't vouch for how good (or otherwise!) they are, but another option which you may like to check out is http://www.WebsiteWizard.com which seems very similar to SBI! except that, unless I'm mistaken (a) you can pay monthly and (b) some of the features of the SBI!-e modules - credit card processing etc. are already in place in the premium version. Can't remember prices though off the top of my head. Like I say, I have no opinion on this product - I'm just trying to give you extra options to consider. Great name by the way
Allan - I too would be very interested to hear what non internet marketing products, if any, you promote. I appreciate you have LifeTimeCommissions and PayPerClickSearchEngines and LifeTimeCustomers but do you promote any other genres of products? Apart, of course, from Rupert's SBI! experiments...?
Cheers for now,
Richard |

| Alan - I would also be interested in what other associate sites you've done. I'm currently building one myself, and having spent a long time searching on the web for info and tools - it's always good to have a look at sites that work and are making money. |

Hi folks
I'm Darren from the UK.
Question for all the sensible folks on here.
So what if someone wants to promote only marketting books, e-book, flower arranging books? who cares.
If Allan's interest lies in internet marketing, arm wrestling, or interesting ways to catch spiders, is it really any of our business?
My personal preference would be eighties music products, whether downloadable or otherwise, but I get the feeling that I wouldn't be lampooned in such a rude and unpleasant way.
I receive Allan's newsletter and find it interesting and informative, which is more than I can say for some of the posts in this thread.
I'd suggest sticking to your own area of interest, and leave others to stick to their's.
