I just received an e-maill asking how much I'd charge for a text advertisement on my site. The ad will be 10-15 words of text.
I want to be on the reasonable and inexspensive so as not to be discouraging.
My site is about 4 months old, has a Google PR 4, and gets about 2,000 to 2,500 hits per month and growing.

Anyone have any guidlines they'd like to share?
Thanks,

"Hits" is a term best avoided. If you have nine graphics on your main page and some text, you'll have 10 hits every time a visitor arrives at that page.
Depending on how much they're paying, advertisers might want to know how many unique visitors will see the page on which their text links will appear.
Prices vary widely. Some industries are much more popular than others.
I'm guessing you might get $30 a month, but I'm not familiar with golf sites so I could be wrong.
Do some searches on Google for "text link ads" and "text links ads" and you should be able to see what other people are doing. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Here's a bit more info on text link prices.
A quote from John Miller, writing in LED Digest last month:
"In general the pricing can vary. It depends on where they get their
backlinks. If it is an authority site it is worth more than a site
that has purchased a high PR link someplace else. A PR6 is worth $20
to $25. A PR7 is $60 to $100. A PR8 $150 to $300. And a PR9 can be
$1000 to $3000. All these prices are per month. Of course if you buy
them in packages or a site wide link the price can be a lot lower.
Most high quality sites will not accept ads from casinos, Rx, and
adult sites."

I don't care about the PR side of it. If you have someone asking to pay for a link, then the answer depends on how much it is worth for you to set this up. Would you do it for a dollar a month? I would not, even if the site got zero traffic and was a PR0.
What is your time worth, and how much advertising do you want on your site? Price yourself too low, and you work really hard for not enough. Too high and you never get anything. It is a value you need to determine. Just looking at the numbers, I'll assume you get 500 pageviews a month, so figuring this on a CPM (Cost per thousand displays) does not work. Even a relatively high $10 CPM would only get you $5 a month, and that is not going to pay for your time.
How about this. Offer them $35 a month, or $150 for six months if they pay in advance. Would this be worth your while? _________________ Brad Waller | VP, Business and Affiliate Development
