I received an email that look like it came from Clickbank. The text read:

"Dear ClickBank Vendor, we have recently updated our Payment Policy. Please login to your account to read the updated payment policy for clickbank vendors.

http://clickbank.com/login.html

Thanks for using ClickBank!"

I clicked on the link and it looked just like the ClickBank login page. Just as I was about to enter my username and password to log in, I noticed the address was a geocities site.

This same thing has been tried recently with PayPal. The user is tricked into entering the username and password then the scammer has those for whatever use he wants.

DON'T Fall for it - it's easy to make a mistake.

I have sent an email to Clickbank.

If you click on the link I provided in the first post, you do seem to be taken to the Clickbank login page. The link in the email I received does not take you to the Clickbank page, it takes you to a geocities page.

I'll post the geocities address so you can see the similarity with the Clickbank site - http://www.geocities.com/clickbankpolicy/clickbank-login.html

There is a PayPal version of this going around also. Exact same text almost.

For those of you interested in the "Unlimited PayPal Profits" scam, try reading this:

This is a huge class of scams that not only aims to get credit card numbers -- but even worse, results in identity theft.

Identity theft is now the #1 consumer complaint.

This statistic is staggering: According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), approximately one in every 50 consumers has been a victim of identity theft.

We just did an issue of Internet ScamBusters on this topic. It should be on the ScamBusters.org site soon -- or you can subscribe and read it. http://www.scambusters.org/
