Hello,
I have recently been declined by some of the bigger affiliate programs on the basis of my NZ address. These affliliate programs only market to the US.
Anyway I started looking into the possibility of getting a US mailing address and in my search I discovered the possibility of also needing an IRS Identification number which kind of makes sense considering that I would be trading in the US so to speak.
How have other International Affiliate's e.g. non US Resident manage with regard to this problem.

One way is to write to the affiliate merchant and say that your site has a large proportion of visitors from the U.S. (if it has) and ask for the merchant to reconsider your case. That has worked for me.
If you show merchants that you're very keen to sell their products, they'll often take notice. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Dear Allan,
Thanks for your reply. I have tryed writing to a few programs who turned me down, two of them never bothered replying and one of them just repeating themselves about marketing only to the US, UK and Canada. I had pointed out, in a extremely tactful manner, that it was non-sensical to turn down an affliliate based on his or her address as the Internet was global and it doesn't matter where you live.
Anyway I think I have sourced an address that I can use legally in the US for a reasonable amount of money.

Here's what I say in my FAQ on the subject...
Q: Some companies won't allow me to join because I don't live in the United States. How can I get a U.S. address?
A: First, try looking for a phone number on the site and talk to the affiliate program manager. Explain politely that this is the World Wide Web, and it doesn't really matter where a modem or server is located, you can still attract U.S. visitors. (I live part of the year in Australia and part in New Zealand, but I've almost totally ignored those markets. Most of my customers are in the U.S.) Second best choice: Try an e-mail.
There's a US mailing address service at http://www.mailnetwork.com I've been told that one costs US$300 a year. A cheaper option is USAbox.com which will supply a U.S. street address and forward your mail. This may be suitable for U.S. citizens living abroad. However, if the merchant doesn't want non-U.S. residents, pretending that you are a U.S. resident is unethical. Find another company to promote. _________________ Allan Gardyne

It can be annoying when we get rejected by affiliate programs that market to US affiliates only , but just move on , don't waste your time with them. There are hundreds of other good affiliate programs that you can join that are available to International applicants.
