Post subject: Anyone care to share their oprinion on WebRings?

I am working on incoming links. One site has a good PR and would be highly targeted for my site, but requires WebRing membership. I would have to have the WebRing code at the bottom of my home page, I think.
Does anyone have any experiences with WebRings? Good/bad/indifferent? Does it help PR and traffic? Or does it hurt?
Personally, just speaking as a surfer, I rarely click WebRing links, and actually have felt like they made sites look less professional. But that was before I WAS one! 
So any experience or opinions on whether or not getting in WebRings is a good/bad idea would be really helpful.

If they require the ring be on your homepage, then I strongly recommend you don't do it for several reasons.
1. You risk sending people off your site, in a non-income way, from your home page
2. Most webring code/images I've seen create an increase in page size which means slowing the page load and frustrating your visitors
I don't recommend webrings for PR primarily because the Googlebot would have to find a site where you are "next" or "previous" in the link at the exact moment you are in that position for that site.
Now, webrings can be beneficial to your viewers in finding related sites, but again, you will be sending them away. If you can get away with placing the code on your link resource page, go ahead, since that page is sending them away in a non-income way anyway. You could potentially have the opportunity for folks to visit your site coming from another webring member so webrings aren't all bad.
