HI,

SBI suggests listing free with DMOZ as a way to getting into the msn listings.

DMOZ only considers "non-commercial" sites for their free listings.

Does anyone know what they think about monitization of sites using ADsense?

It might be something to take into consideration.

Hi Rosie,

Actually, it's not DMOZ. It's Zeal. Zeal is the strictly non-commercial directory that will get your listings in MSN (among others).

I have noticed that the editors at Zeal enforce the rules erratically and inconsistently. Well, some of the editors follow the rules, and others are quite arbitrary and intrepret the guidelines, shall we say, rather creatively.

In fact, now that I think about it, it's not unlike the Supreme Court Justices interpreting the same Constitution in a myriad of clever ways.

Anyway, TECHNICALLY, there is nothing in the Zeal guidelines that would prohibit Adsense. Nothing at all. Sites with commercial third party ads are allowed, as long as the page is high value content.

But, if I were you, I would leave the Adsense out when you apply. Then, once you're in, add them.

Don't take any chances.

I've seen some Zeal editors approve sites with a smattering of affiliate links, and I've seen some other crazy powertripping editors reject sites that have outgoing links that don't even direct to a commercial page whatsoever.

I've also seen one expert Zealot adding hundreds of pages of a site that served Adsense on every page, so he didn't seem to think it was a problem.

Dan,

Thanks of course it is zeal - silly me.

I think I guessed that the answer would not be cut and dried.

Thank you
