Hey, y'all,

Earlier this week I posted that my site is getting a whole section of original, free content written by an expert in exchange for having her website link in a resource box at the end of each of her articles.

She's already given me 3 great articles that are getting lots of hits from my visitors. I promoted her articles in my site's blog and newsletter, and she told me she's had a flood of traffic and several orders from that. And I've profited very well from the AdSense on her article pages, because these ads target fairly pricey keywords. Smile

By coincidence, today a completely different webmaster from a huge PR-5 site in my niche emailed me and asked if he could reprint several of my articles on his site along with my website link. He also offered me the opportunity to write a monthly featured column for his site, again with my link at the end. He gets 80 million hits per year, with 4,000 unique visitors per week. Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I'm so excited that I can't think of a single thing to write about yet!!!

I guess what comes around, goes around! Try finding related but noncompeting sites for exchanging a little original free content along with a link to your site, instead of doing a plain ol' reciprocal link exchange to a links page. All webmasters need content, and we all appreciate receiving a share of each other's traffic! Everybody wins big with this. You don't have to write long articles; even a quick-to-write, 150-word article of tips might be perfect.

Well done, Jewel! Very Happy

What a terrible predicament! Wink

How about asking what topics the webmaster thinks are the hottest in the eyes of his visitors?

It's sort of like developing a product for an existing market. If you offer him exactly what he asks for (rather than guessing what that might be) you stand a better chance of making him happy from day one.

All the best,
Charlie.

P.S. Wally - shouldn't this go in the new motivation section when you start it? Wink

I'm just wondering how you tell it is that page that is getting the Adsense clicks. By the page hits in the site stats? Or are those keywords so much higher than your other keywords, that you're drawing that conclusion? Or both.

It's just an educated guess, but I'm basing it on my SBI stats and AdWords research. Those new pages were receiving the majority of the views and the majority of the exits on those days - and one way exits happen is when ads are clicked. I skulked around AdWords to see how much ads with those keywords cost the advertiser, and these fit the pattern.

From studying my site traffic and AdSense earnings in the past, I have a pretty good idea of what my other AdSense ads bring in. So I deduced that the new pages with tons of hits were responsible for the rash of new higher-priced clicks. I guess it's not a concrete fact, but a lot of evidence points in that direction!

Thank you for bringing me back to reality, Charlie! In my excitement I did lose my head and my grip on good business practices! I'm glad you reminded me of it, and I will do exactly that.

Jewel,

seems you just struck some gold. That didn't happen by coincidence, and you know it. You have something of value in your field, that's obvious. Just lean back, relax and enjoy, and you will come up with a killer article for that site, sementing yourself in the market.

Very happy to read your post; congratulations!

Thanks, Jewel for your detailed response. I've only been using Adsense for about 6 weeks and am trying to figure out all the strategies possible.

Best wishes to you on your writing projects!

Thanks, all! I don't mind sharing the site - it's Home Jewelry Business Success Tips, and you can access it by clicking the WWW button under my posts, or from my profile (trying to avoid spambots).

I know it's not the end-all and be-all of website design, but it is stuffed with niche-specific information that's hard to find for free anywhere else. I'm also having three other experts in different areas of my niche contribute articles. It's a wonderful way to add content fast while boosting the writer's link popularity and sending targeted traffic to them.

I'll let you know what happens when I have some of my articles and a feature on the other site.

Very nice!

Looks like you have your content all set for awhile now. Between the other web owner writing content for your site, and you writing the column, you should get a nice boost.

Do you get to reprint the column articles on your site as well, or are they just for the other site?

I'm glad you mentioned that, Eric; I never thought of it. I'll have to ask whether they mind my putting the column articles on my site too - possibly in a separate section mentioning that these are the columns I've written for their site, which would give them a boost in return. Or maybe I could do it with a line at the bottom of each article saying "Originally published in ***", with a link to their site.

I just got another email from that site owner today, saying,

"I will link your newsletter to our "free Section" and you will start
getting requests for your newsletter like crazy. We will have you over
2,000 in a hurry! Be sure to mention your newsletter at the bottom of
each column and we will link it to my request forms. You will get an email
for each person requesting a subscription which will include all of
their contact information."

What a boost that will be for my newsletter. Now it seems silly that I was excited last Monday for sending my first issue out to 262 people! And since Monday 83 more people have signed up for it, mostly referred by my other subscribers I believe.

If anyone is procrastinating on getting their site's newsletter out, I encourage you to make it a priority! My traffic and income really jumped this week when I published my first issue, and it hasn't really slowed down yet from it. I kept putting mine on a back burner while I worked on other projects, but now I'm psyched about filling it with quality content and getting it out regularly.

My blog is drawing a lot of repeat visitors, too, and it's really not that labor intensive for me. Just a few sentences every day or two with quick tips from me or my readers, and occasional links to specific parts of my site. I highly recommend adding a blog to increase your daily traffic. Plus the SE's love the often-updated content!
