I have taken affiliate marketing to the extreme with my online shopping mall.... http://www.iclickshop.com . I seem to have a conversion rate of less than 1% even though my visitors are highly targeted. I am using overture which is expensive so I can't go on doing this with conversion rates like that. Also my commission is on average less than 10% so even when I do make a sale I am not recovering my cost. Am I playing the affiliate game wrong and what advice can you give me? Cheers.

Anytime you spend more than you make, particularly in PPC, you are asking for trouble.

You are asking perfect strangers to trust you, and your site, but provide no information to help them along the way. Just a bunch of links, no real content, no reassurance, no real information about you and why they should trust you.

Why is your site different than hundreds of thousands of malls out there? Why should I use your services? Who are you? What can you do for me?

Those are questions you need to answer to build credibility and trust.

You aren't using effective keyphrases, the phrases you are using are highly competitive and hard to rank well in, you don't use alt tags in your images, they are all empty.

To be honest, from what I can see on your site, you are breaking every basic good practice rule for affiliate sites. I strongly recommend you review the other threads on Site Reviews, particularly Tim's posts, go over the SEO forum as well.

You can continue the way you are and be out of business and in debt up to your ears in less than 5 months ... or you can learn proper practices to promote via PPC or free SE's by building quality pages with recommendations and reviews.

Yes. You're doing almost everything wrong.

Your site is beautiful. It looks as though it was created by an architect, artist or designer - while the Internet marketer was on holiday.

You've obviously put in a lot of work but it's been misdirected.

It would take a whole book to tell you what you do. I suggest you start by reading Ken Evoy's Make Your Site Sell and his free Affiliate Masters Course.

An exception is when you're paying to test something...

One question that comes up here often is how big a sample is needed to test something - such as a sales page CR. The figure of 1000 visitors is often mentioned as the standard for "significance".

The problem is - especially with a new site - it can take forever to generate 1000 unique visitors to a page from free SE traffic.

Overture and Google Adwords can provide quick traffic (for a price) in most cases. You will "spend more than you make" at the time, but it may be money well spent if you see what you make changes more quickly.

Actually, this what I use the PPCs for, rather than profits. (I realise you can make an on-going profit with the PPCs, but it does take quite a lot of monitoring if you are going to it seriously. My sites are diverse enough to make this harder than I would like.)

Just a thought,
Charlie.

Your website is really very nice and you have a good traffic to your website and no conversion rate right Question

I think I am not a very newbie to answer this.

I've read in some scientificwarriors free ebook that only salesmanship principles will work to have good convertion rate.
So better have some guide to market well.
