I have a website with AdSense ads. The ads are very relevant for the site. I sell a digital product on this site using Clickbank.

I have another website that I have linked to the first website.

I have two Clickbank accounts.

Using the 2nd Clickbank account, I put an affiliate link from the second site to the first. Basically, if someone followed one of those links and made a purchase, I would get payment as the merchant through one Clickbank account and I would get a commission as an affiliate through the 2nd Clickbank account.

After adding the Clickbank affiliate link to the 2nd site, I followed that link to the main site. Something strange happened - the previously relevant links on the main site changed to charity links.

If anyone else can try this, please do and see if you get the same results. Based on my experience, it seems as if someone following a Clickbank link to your site will change your Google Adsense ads to charity ads.

I wonder if this happens with non-Clickbank affiliate links?

Charity ads show up when Google can't figure out the content of the page.

Here are some things you could try on that second page.

Use an important keyword in the the file name, for example asbestos-cancer.html.

Use your keyword in the heading on the page, for example

<H1>Details about asbestos-related cancer</H2>

Use the keyword in sub-headings, for example

<h3>More details about asbestos cancer</h3>

Mention "asbestos-related cancer" and "abestos cancer"
and similar phrases in the body of the article and again
further down the page.

Use "asbestos cancer" in bold, use it links.... In other words,
do all the usual things you'd do for search engine optimization.

Make it easy for Google to figure out.

Have you tried doing that sort of thing and are still seeing
charity ads?

I may not have explained the problem very well.

The page shows very relevant key words when you visit the page.

However, if you arrive at the page via a Clickbank affiliate link, the otherwise relevant key words become charity ads.

Example - Suppose you have AdSense ads on your home page at AssociatePrograms.com and

1. Adsense displays relevant key words on that page
2. You also have an affiliate program throught Clickbank
3. I am one of your Clickbank affiliates

Someone visits your site and sees the relevant Adsense ads.

However, if I put an affiliate link on my site for your affiliate program, and one of my site visitors clicks on that link to go to your site, when the visitor arrives at your site, the ads become charity ads.

I'm wondering if other people are experiencing this and whether it happens with non-Clickbank affiliate links?

Fascinating. I suggest you write to AdSense, giving them precise details, URLs etc. It would be very interesting to see what they say about this.
