Post subject: What does spider do?
|
|
|
Hello all: I have a question for a while.
When we input a key word/phrase into Google to do the web search, usually it comes out a great number of titles and excerpts of articles. In the text of each article always include the key word/phrase inputted.
It seems as if the SPIDER brought the whole text back to its database. I think it should not be possible!
What does the spider bring back? |

Search on Google. See where it says "Cached" next to the link? Click it. That is everything that the Google spider has brought back. So yes, it does capture the entire page. _________________ Robert

Thanks, robertb.
I thought if the spider brings the entire page back, how big the size of the database will be. |

Google's database is HUGE! And getting bigger.

Google doesn't cache your entire site though... any media files are generally ignored... or some information about them is cached... and usually the images are just thumbnailed...
And if you have fast enough servers, you can compress that data... saving a TON of space that way... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

| If the SE brings the entire page back, is the tag <meta name="keywords"> still important? |

Not to google, but I believe there are still some SE's that do take it into consideration.

Google doesn't really use keywords from metatags anymore, but I would still use them as some other major search engines still use them and especially the small ones! _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs

Hi,
If our site is not found on the first few pages of SE after a search of certain keywords, how can we find out at which page it is located out of the few thousands or millions of sites listed in the SE.
Thanks |

You would likely need some kind of ranking software ... WebPositionGold comes to mind. But do be careful, as automated queries (when done improperly) can cause you (your ip) to be banned from some SE's, including Google.
