Post subject: using a pen name?
|
|
|
This is a bit like asking the person who hid or ate the cookies to confess... I am wondering though about the use of pen names. We see people marketing things, all the time and using a first and last name to make it sounds more personal, pull more sales etc. ("John Smith's Hoola Hoop Secrets" ). This however makes it quite easy for someone to look you up and find out where you live, etc.
I am wondering if anyone has used another name, or knows of someone who does, for privacy or other reasons. I can think of several issues this raises with respect to copyrights, etc. I guess one could register a dba with one's city or county. In any case, people have been using pen names for 100s of years.
Related to this is the use of a company name. I've seen some, but not all affiliates allow you to register a company name. Has this been a problem for anyone?
However, the main thing I'm thinking about now is using a pseudonym (pen name) in public thing such as sales letters, web page, etc. If anyone has had experience with this, looked into it or knows of some real life case it would be intereting and helpful to hear.

Thanks, Debs. I spent about 15 minutes searching with no luck before I posted.

I figured you did I had an inside view since I remembered the post and new what words were likely to bring it up. That's the hard part about searching though ... knowing the right words to search upon.

I always think it helps if you can remember who wrote a post in any given thread. That can narrow things down nicely, in most cases.
Cheers,
Charlie.
P.S. Much as I like revisiting old threads, it's a bit disconcerting to find you don't always agree with yourself anymore... _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
