A great site to help with simple SEO and submission, that I've seen Allan recommend also, is:

You don't need to submit a new site to the search engines at all. They'll find it themselves if you have links pointing to it.
Submiitting a new page from a site that is already listed in Google can sometimes speed up the crawling process - especially if you don't update the site very often. This is because Google visits regularly updated pages more often - if they don't visit much, a submission will remind them to check it out.
You can't submit to Teoma or Inktomi (for free) and AltaVista appears to pretty much ignore their add url tool. AllTheWeb may crawl submissions but like Google, it's links that will get you listed and they tend to find new sites and pages relatively quickly.
Cheers

You can't submit to Jeeves either. They have to crawl ya... fortunately, I have one site that Jeeves loves for some reason... so I get crawled every so often. The other sites have seen the Jeeves spider once... but thats it... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Hi Eric
The Ask Jeeves spider is Teoma. As you said, once it finds a site it likes it can be extremely active. It just discoverd a new site I'm building and crawled 1300 pages in a day.
You can pay to get into Teoma but generally, I wouldn't recommend it. One of my sites does get traffic from AJ but it's not much and I get nothing from the Teoma site itself.
Cheers
