The CruiseDiva site shows proper cruise ads for me here in Australia. No offense, but I think that site is much more targetted/optimised for cruise-related keywords than your page is. _________________ http://www.OneStopUnder.com - serious reading for serious photographers. |

| Yes, I realize her site is more targeted for cruises, but that doesn't explain why you can see hers, but not mine, unless it's because of what was mentioned before. |

If she uses a wider range of cruise-related phrases on her page, advertisers who have chosen those key phrases are much more likely to appear on her page than on yours.
Advertisers go to AdWords and type in phrases in which they are interested, for example, "travel", "cruise ship", "cruise vacation", etc.
If she uses "cruise vacation" on her page and that phrase is not on your page, any advertiser who decides to advertise targeting the key phrase "cruise vacation" could appear on her page but won't appear on yours.
As you've found out, if you try a very narrow focus you can miss out on getting ads altogether.
A really fast way of finding hundreds or even thousands of key phrases that relate to your industry is to use KeywordSleuth. It's very useful. You can get a brief free trial here:

Also, do what Allan suggested earlier ... open an Adwords account and do keyphrase research on your topic ... in this case cruises ... you will see the best phrases to target for Adsense this way.

If it's any help - your Minnie Pauz page is showing two Google ads here in South Africa. One is from orbitz.com and other from info-seek.co.uk/cruises.
cheers,

Thanks, Scotch!! That's very good to know!
Allan and Debs, thanks for your advice. I have done what you suggested, plus I've read all the great pages with helpful tips! The original problem (only PSA's showing) has been resolved and now it's just an issue of where the ads are being seen or not seen. As mentioned before, without knowing which ads are being clicked on, it's very difficult to know if a certain page is the best it can be anyway, so once you've done everything you possibly can, it's in the hands of fate.
January is starting off with a bang, so I'm very happy at this point! What you experts have said all along is true--there are many variables that affect our results and it's difficult at times to be patient and persistant and just hang in there with it. Thank you all for the valuable feedback!

Just to clarify this... I was distracted in the middle of writing that post, and didn't complete my explanation. Feel free to call me a muddle head
While advertisers can target precise phrases when they advertise on Google Adwords, it's not as clear-cut as that when they choose to advertise on content sites - across the network of sites which use AdSense.
On the content sites, Google uses special software to "read" the words on the page and try to figure out what it's all about, and does its best to serve up relevant ads.
Here's how Google explains it:
| Quote: | | We go beyond simple keyword matching to understand the context and content of web pages. Based on an algorithm that includes such factors as keyword analysis, word frequency, font size, and the overall link structure of the web, we know what a page is about, and can precisely match Google ads to each page. |
Let's say you see an ad appear on the right side of a Google search results page in the Adwords text ads. You think, "That would be a good ad for AdSense on my site."
For the ad to appear in the AdSense ads on your page, at least three things have to happen:
1. The advertiser has to choose to advertise in your country.
2. The advertiser has to choose to advertise on content sites.
3. You have to have appropriate key phrases on your page.
Hope that makes sense this time.

Hi,
| Quote: | If you want "sport"-type keywords, use "sport"-type keywords on your page, for example, in your Title, in the Heading on the page, in your meta tags, in the page file name, a couple of time in the first paragraph, in links on the page, in the body text of the page and again at the end - just like optimizing a web page to be found in search engines.
|
I also agree with the above statement which was posted earlier on in this thread. But it would also be best if you don't use to many of the same keywords throughout your page as Google may penalize you when they are indexing your page for the inclusion within their main search engine. This is because Google may think that you are spamming. _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs

Google doesn't really penalize for keyword density in page content. They look more at heading tags, meta title, and link anchor text. They will track font sizes and colors so you don't want to be "blending" your text into your page background, and yes it has been reported that Google does check CSS styles for this as well.
