Hoping you all don't mind a PC question which is only related marginally to affiliate info. My browser opens a new window everytime i click. I end up with endless browsers and a warning about low resourses from Windows. Could some kind soul help out?

I assume you are using IE (internet explorer) ... if so, open your browser, go to Tools/Internet Options in the toolbar.

A window pops up, go to the Advanced tab, and click the "reuse windows for launching shortcuts" and see if that helps. Click apply.

Once you restart your browser that should take care of it. (I hope) Wink

I had this problem about a couple of months ago.

Quote:
------------Attention to all persons using Windows 98 and Internet Explorer 6.0-------------

As I have posted earlier, I was having problems with IE6.0. When clicking on links on a web page, a new window would open up and then just sit there and do nothing, no matter how long you leave it open. This problem also occured when opening links in e-mails. Also, I noticed that when I tried to find text on a web page that I would get an error message as follows.

Unhandled Exception

Error Number 0x80070725
Description: Incompatible version of the RPC stub.

Setup will now terminate.

After doing some searching this morning when I got in from work, I found that all these problems are related to the Oleaut32.dll file in the Windows systems folder. Some people started having this problem after loading Microsoft security update dated 02/23/2002. If memory serves me correctly, I think my problems started after doing a critical update, but not sure which one.

To correct this problem you need to install an earlier version of the Oleaut32.dll. Unless you know how to do this from MSDOS, which I don't, you can download a patch for MSInvestor from Microsoft which has an earlier version included. The .dll file date that I had was 08/29/02. The one in the patch is dated 03/15/00. Once installed, everything has been back to normal and working great. After installing the patch I went to Microsoft Updates and downloaded all the critical updates, including IE6.0 SP update. All is still working.

The only thing I am not sure of is whether this update will work for other versions of Windows. I did notice that one person had this problem with Win2000. I guess for other versions, try at your own risk..

Liz,
Did you close EVERY internet explorer window after you ticked the button? It may not take effect otherwise.

Does it happen if you re-boot (shut down the computer, turn power off and turn it back on 2 min. later)? IE can be finicky sometimes all that is needed is to reboot. Netscape works a lot better in this regard but since Microsoft has all the money everyone uses their product.

Hopefully you get it solved soon and can chalk it up to a bad hair, er I mean a bad Microsoft day. Very Happy

Mark

Liz, another thought. You say when you "click" ... clicking links on other sites, or your sites?

If the webmaster set the html coding to open a new/blank window, there isn't anything you can do about it except avoid that site. Wink If it is your site, then check your html links and be sure you aren't opening new/blank windows unnecessarily.

I use Netscape as my default browser (I still have IE for certain things) but do most everything in Netscape. With version 7.1, if I hold down the CTRL key when I click a link, it opens a new tab, not new window, and it's easy for me to manage that way. A right click on the tab, gives me options to close that tab, or close all other tabs.

Just a thought,
Debs

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply -especially since it isnt an associate issue. But yes I do understand about web sites setting a new page to open-I do it myself. And no its not a rebootable problem as it has been happening for weeks and the computer has been off many times.
So I am just checking the dll. idea that Stephen suggested-thanks. I did a search and found 4 instances of this file. The oldest 2 are 29/08/02 and the other 2 are 21/1/2000. They are all in different folders. I am going to get the patch and swap the newest two. Hope that the right thing to do.

Just thought could I just replace the two newer ones by copying the older ones?
