Post subject: When not to opt for Ad$ense?

I just put a bunch of AdWords banners on my best affiliate site, and I'm surprised by the amount of clicks. I also noticed a small uptick in traffic. Go figure. But the ads that appear directly compete with the products I have affiliate links for on my site. Although I haven't seen a noticeable drop in sales yet, I can't help but wonder if I'm losing affiliate sales (which pay much more than a Google AdSense click-through) to AdSense click-throughs. Is there a scenario where AdSense doesn't make $ense?

Hi Francis,
You've just described exactly when placing Adsense on your site doesn't make sense... or only makes 'cents' compared to the dollars you'd make by promoting products.
If you are running a blog, you might want to consider placing Adsense on individual posts and pages that are informational in nature, and leave Adsense off those that contain product reviews.
Hope that helps!

You need to have some content on a page to put Adsense...and the content to be about the same thing, not only short descriptions. _________________ Commercial Loans

Money's short times are hard... Hi Rosalind. Pleasant.
I will vouch for Rosalind's Super Affiliate Handbook... I purchased my copy years ago.
A lot of people dump big money on training that is included in the Super Affiliate Handbook at a much lower cost from a much more experienced Affiliate marketer.
I took my copy to Office Depot and had it printed and bound. While I don't refer to it much any more. I will say the information is very worth the minimal investment for anyone who really wants to expand their opportunities. You will learn things that would otherwise take years from trial and error or that you would not have thought about on your own. Like Allan, Rosalind has been at this for a long time.
Definitely the guide for people who want to build an affiliate business... learn the ropes and not get suckered into this months "trick, tip, or method". Nice to see you here. I hope people will take what you say to heart.
I mix Adsense and Affiliate opportunities all the time. But you have to be careful that you measure the performance of one against the other. I also have sites that are Adsense only and Affiliate Only.
The reason I use Adsense on an Affiliate site is simple... bounce rate. Not everyone will take the time to dig in and read your pre-sell offer. For those people I want to give them an easy out via Adsense so I still get paid.
Be careful not to over do your Adsense blocks. One block of Ads in just the right place will make you a lot more money than several blocks in most niches. You don't make more money by featuring more ads. You make money by being selective and leading your visitors to the places you want them to see and click. _________________

For the most part I will use adsense on any article type page. If there are any affiliate links in the body of the page I will avoid adsense. Remember your most wanted response.
Your slight up in traffic was probably from the adsense robot checking out your site.
Hi Rosalind nice to see another "local" here. _________________ Business Owners Guide to Going Online What every business owner needs to know about going online |

The only way to know for certain is to do a test. You could try putting AdSense on your site for a month and see if your total revenue (AdSense plus affiliate income) is higher or lower than it was.
You may be pleasantly surprised.
We have sites where most of the revenue comes from affiliate commissions, and sites where about 80% or 90% of the revenue comes from AdSense. _________________ Allan Gardyne
