I have a website that has 1st page on google for a pretty good keyword.

I have not been building links, or updating the site with fresh content for about 3 months.

Now the site will jump from page 1 to page 10 and back again a few times a day?????

Could anyone explain this or is it because I stoped doing seo on that site. But if this is the case why wouldn't I keep losing placement until The site was no longer found instead of jumping from page 1 to 10 and back again???

There is nothing as constant as change.

Google has multiple data centers. The results you see from your search wherever you are located will probably be different from the results another individual sees for the same search terms.

That's the whole point. Google is continually trying to serve the most relevant data back to the searcher.

If your online presence relies entirely on organic search and it's fluctuations you probably won't make much money in the long term.

Why would you expect search results to always be the same?

Google is working very hard to serve results people want. You should expect more variations in the future not less.

Google is always changing. The best advice i can give you is never stop marketing your site. That means get new back links everyday and make sure to be relevant and this will never happen. Though Google changes a lot, one thing remains consistent - They love relevant content linked with other relevant content.

There are big changes in Google SERP these days. It may due to Google algorithm changes. I see daily changes in my SERP also.
A very big change will happen on January.
