I've actually seen social bookmarking links go down in value - it's too easy and too many people are doing it. With all the tools, getting 100 social bookmarking links now takes 2 minutes. 2 years ago it would have taken 2 hours and that's when it was very good as a backlink.

Nonetheless it is still effective if done consistently, but you need a lot of them and you need to ping your profile if you want your links to get picked up.
