Post subject: How I Got A Top 5 Rankings For 'Affiliate Marketing'

In fact, I had a top ranking for this tough keyword for more than one year, and a couple of months ago, Google decided to drop it on page 2, then on page 3.
Well, since I don't put my eggs in a single basket, it was just a few hundreds visitors per months.
I decided to make some tweaks to my page, remove some links, add new links, remove the anchor text, and add newer, you see the picture.
(I wanted to do those for a long time, but since I had a Top 10 in Google, I let it without touching it, except very small changes from time to time.)
And guess what happened?
My site came back on Google Top 5 like a rocket.
It's the proof that Google like Good content.
So if you want to get better rankings, make sure that you update your site (I mean the pagee you want to rank for) from tome to time.

PS. Note that you may lose your ranking by doing that as well (I do not control Google...), so I'd suggest doing this if you lost your rankings or if you are on page two for example.

Congrats
Just did a search for affiliate marketing but the sites in top 5 in the UK are all big firms. But then there is Fraser's blog. Are you fraser? Would be really intersting if you are.

how do you find out what page you are on? i don't want to go through 100 pages if i am number 99 or is that what you have to do?

So, you only did on-page tweaking to get your ranking back?
Do you get any new backlinks?
Just today I heard someone brag again about having a Page 1 ranking for a site they haven't touched for 18 months!
I suppose you just have to keep an eye on it and when your rank drops suddenly you need to act.
This is why Blogs are good - if your front page displays your latest posts it's always changing as you add content.
I like to use static homepages for my Wordpress sites, but I make sure I have links to my latest posts and try and have widgets on the home page that shows updated content and links back to it. That way it keeps fresh and I get to have the benefit of a static home page.
