Post subject: First Page Rankings Shouldn't Be Your Goal
|
|
|
After having a steamy argument with homebus, a very smart marketer, I think I should explain the reason as to why first page rankings should not be your goal.
I really need a whole page to write this, and could make an e-book on it, but I think I should be able to write this in about one or two bullets.
- First page rankings are a luxury. Getting on the first page of google shouldn't be a necessity, it should be a bonus to your website's success. If you create a product that's really remarkable, and you network within your community, your community will give you back-links, which will give you a higher-page rank. This should be the way that you work to get on the first page of google for your keyword.
- First page rankings is hard to do for competitive keywords. Instead, you should be working on your products, making sure that they're really a purple cow, rather than a copied product that's slightly better than it's competition. If you can do this, and network within your niche, than your first page rankings will appear, but really you shouldn't be going teeth to nail for it. Remember, it's a luxury.
Maybe I should write a book on this eh? _________________ Free Downline Builder System

This is a good point and many people may not really understand what you are saying.
If I am interpreting this correctly, if you are making sure your product/service is top notch and has a competitive advantage, the interested niche turns into a customer base turns into your site ranking appropriately for possibly harder keywords.
Your real goal however is to get in front of the right audience. Ironically, that may not really have anything to do with first page rankings for broad situations because that is just traffic.
Impressions are good, clicks are better but sales is what you want. This is going to take some great ONline and OFFline marketing so I have found in my marketing travels.
This is a good topic angle to this subject. I am glad you brought this up. _________________ The Way A Rebate Program SHOULD Be Done

I can agree with the process behind the statement but not the statement itself.
People search like this.
1. Type in keyword
2. Look at first page results
3. Make a decision to click or reserach
Repeat the above process. Statistically speaking 70% of users rely on first page results. It's human behavior.
Organic search is not everything but it's an important component. Links from other sources that lead to your site are incredibly valuable for sure.
I always focus on creating links that deliver the traffic I want to convert. I never go after traffic for the sake of numbers because it is a waste of my visitors time to not offer a solution to their search, and it's a waste of my time and resources as well. _________________

Understood. It is a continuous dance. And we wonder why non-affiliate marketers think we are crazy. _________________ The Way A Rebate Program SHOULD Be Done

Um, sorry, apologies, wrong.

Yes, right!
Bottom line, one way or another we need content that is relevant to the search, and we need lots of links. Natural links from happy users are the best of course, and you are wise to point us towards that. _________________ The best nature on the Net, delivered to your inbox.

I think we're all getting around the same point. If your goal is to be on the first page, you will fail, even if you achieve it. If your goal is to send traffic that converts, you will need to work with the tools of the trade. Those include customer retention and search engine ranking. Getting on page #1 of a SERP won't make you money, but it sure does make it easier. _________________ www.affiliateprograms.com |

You are right and you are wrong.
You are right because to make a great living as an affiliate marketer you CANNOT limit your traffic to just one source. PPC, networking, JV's SEO ec. - all adds to your success.
You are wrong simply because Page 1 rankings can create a surge in sales unlike anything else. If you go and "buy" a page one listing with PPC for instance you can get a ton of traffic. If I can make good money "paying" for my page 1 ranking, then I how much will I make when I get that ranking for free.
I rest my case. Good point though. It should not be your sole aim and you should not spend more than 20% of your time on SEO. _________________ PR3 in 7 Weeks - Get Front Page Google Rankings Fast

I would disagree in spending little time on SEO.
Personally, this is how I do it: I create content while building anchor text backlinks: How?
I create articles and submit them to directories. I link exchange with active blogs.
These two tactics are pretty much enough to get to the top ten search rankings of niche keywords.
I like the idea of purple cow, I shall think about it a little more so than I can put that idea into real application to internet marketing. _________________ Getting truth in six packs abs fast |

No point creating content and hoping you will rank. You have to split y time between creating content and building backlinks to that content. It's the only way people will get to see it.
Page 1 rankings should be your goal - aim for top 5 (above the fold) as it gets about 50% of the traffic. _________________ PR3 in 7 Weeks - Get Front Page Google Rankings Fast
