Post subject: Question about Landing Page
|
|
|
I currently offer several free guitar lessons on my site that anyone visiting can access. However, I think it would be better to set up a "landing page" before giving away this free content to help build my list. I could require people to opt-in and get a password in order to access the lessons, but I'm concerned that my site's position in Google' Search Engine will suffer. Does anyone know if Search Engines, such as Google, view (rank, crawl) private, password protected pages the same way they view normal content pages? _________________ guitar2tr

You can usually provide a robots.txt file to prevent unwanted pages from getting indexed in the search engines. I agree that creating an opt in list would be a good way to go. _________________ Wealthy Affiliate Review

Google normally don't index the pages that require log-in. so, its better option to use robots.txt file that will hide your landing page from search engine's crawler. _________________ 70-640 exam-70-620 exam |

I agree use the robots.text.
You should definitely build you list, you could also ramp up your private and make another tier.
Give your three lessons for free, and make another 10 or so and have a paid section. just an idea. _________________ Wealthy Affiliate Review & $1 Trial Offer |

Thanks for the great input! I've had the free lesson pages up for awhile now, so Google has already indexed them.

That's exactly what I was planning to do.
Will Google penalize me if I make some of them private now?
Is there a code that allows Google to index password protected pages? _________________ guitar2tr
