we all know that we need back links from high PR pages to increase our own PR.

I found that deep linking (linking to sub-pages) is very effective, not only to increase PR but also the same sub-page could show up in the first result page.

I use article marketing a lot, and it helps increase traffic and PR.
I also build social profile pages and blog for free, on authority websites. and link from them, to my pages.

bookmarking also is doing me great results.

So i figured out that if i can combine those 3 strategies together, i can build pages and increase their PR with links on those pages to my website.

Instead of paying for back links from High PR pages, it's easy but when you stop paying you will no longer get that back link.
and remember PR could drop down faster than it goes up.

so build your own pages free, in another high PR websites and increase the PR of that page. on that page have deferent links to deferent pages on your site.
this way you will get high PR pages with hundreds of visitors daily, and good quality back links to your site forever.

I would like to know if anybody knows how frequent is pagerank updated. Is their a pattern? How many links do you need to get pagerank 5 and does getting pagerank mean you get listed higher in the search engines, and get more traffic? Also i noticed with one of my new sites i was in the first page of google for a few keywords and a week later, i can't find my link. Why would this happen?

PageRank is updated continually. However, visible PageRank, the little green bar you see in the Google Toolbar, is updated only roughly every three months or so. It was last updated a few days ago.

Quote:
How many links do you need to get pagerank 5

It depends on the quality of the links to your page. The more links you have from pages which themselves have high PageRank, the fewer links you need. I'm not an expert on PageRank and I could be wrong here, but judging by my own sites, I get the impression that it's easier to get a higher PageRank if your niche has few competitors. I could be wrong about that. The important thing to know is that it's easier to get good results in search engines when you have few competitors.

I just checked two of my sites that have a PageRank 5 main page:

According to Yahoo Site Explorer (when you choose "Except from this domain" and "To entire site")...

AssociatePrograms.com has 21,365 inlinks
PayPerclickSearchEngines.com has 4519 inlinks

Here are some PageRank 4 sites we own:

KeywordWorkshop.com: 926 inlinks
SpeedPPC.com: 24,710 inlinks (lots of affiliate links)
LifetimeCommissions.com: 759 inlinks
Cheap-Computers-Guide.com: 887 inlinks
Dj-Tips-And-Tricks.com: 839 links

The increase from PageRank 1 to PageRank 2 etc is exponential. It's a big step to go from PageRank 4 to PageRank 5, and huge step to go from 5 to 6. You can't tell by looking at the little green bar exactly where a site is, for example just at the beginning of 4 or very close to hitting 5.

So, as a rough rule of thumb, aim for hundreds or thousands of links, and get high quality ones if you can.

Quote:
does getting pagerank mean you get listed higher in the search engines...

As a very general, rough rule, yes. A high PageRank indicates that you have lots of links and/or very good quality links to your site. However, PageRank is just one of hundreds of factors that Google takes into account, so it's easy to find cases where a high PageRank page is outranked by a page that has a lower PageRank.

Quote:
...and get more traffic?

Well, yes, maybe. If people are actually searching in Google for the words and phrases that are used on that page, yes.

Quote:

Google likes new stuff. Newness seems to be one of the factors involved in ranking pages.

Do a search in Google like this...

site:www.example.com

...to see if your page is still in Google's index. If it's not, you may have done something that annoyed Google. If the page is in Google's index but is not ranking well, you need to get some friends to link to it, so I hope the page has something on it that's worth linking to. Smile

If the page is all about woozy widgets, ask your friends to mention "woozy widgets" in the link. Give different friends slightly different words so that the linking will look natural to the search engines.

If possible, make friends with the owners of authority sites in your niche - ones that have lots of links to them. When they link to you, that tells Google that your site is important, too.

[Edited to correct the number of inlinks shown at
http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com . I was using
http://nz.siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com which gave smaller numbers.]

Thank you for the informative post. I found your "77 ways to get traffic" report and will study this in depth and apply where possible. Great work. Thank you for answering my questions. I received pagerank of 2 on my travel site (3 months old) and are very excited. Hopefully i can get it to 4 or 5 soon, but i guess it's more important to get more visitors than a high pagerank.

This is really weird! I've updated my post above in which I gave numbers of inlinks to some of our sites.

I'm in New Zealand at the moment and when I went to Yahoo.com a few days ago I was automatically redirected to the NZ version - and to the NZ version of Yahoo Site Explorer.

http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com
http://nz.siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

Surpringly, the NZ version of Site Explorer produces significantly different numbers. It's totally unreliable. Perhaps that's why it's still in beta.

Hey! And the Australian version - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/au/ - gives yet a DIFFERENT number of inlinks.

For example, AssociatePrograms.com has only 5,737 inlinks according to the NZ version of Site Explorer, 17,561 according to the Australian version, but it has 21,365 inlinks according to the main version.

SpeedPPC.com has 5,158 inlinks according to the NZ version and 24,710 according to the main version.

I wonder if the same sort of thing is happening with Site Explorer versions in other parts of the world?

Yep! The Canadian version - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ca/ - gives yet another different number for our inlinks: 18,091.

In my experience, the easiest way to find Yahoo Site Explorer is to go to Yahoo.com and do a search for link:example.com

Then you can type in http://example.com and click on "Explore URL", and then refine the search however you want to.

A couple of years ago, Yahoo Site Explorer was showing different numbers depending on whether you were logged in or not. That didn't happen to me today.

You know that on top of all that you really need to make sure that you are linking with sites that are relative to your own otherwise they don't really do you much good at all.

Great thread! I would advise setting up profiles and getting backlinks from authority sites like hubpages and squidoo and there's many others as well. And don't underestimate the power of links from niche forums, these are good too especially if the forum has high PR.

Yeah, most of this is good advice.

The real "secret" is to actually do it consistently over time and to automate as much of it as possible.

Doing this for 10 sites every day is a full time job!

That's why I prefer quality instead of quantity. Watch out for those NOFOLLOW links as many of the sites/strategies mentioned are limited to sites with the NOFOLLOW tag.

Focus on quality links.

High PR and Relevant links!
