www.aboutpianolessons.com

My site has been on line for about 2 months and I have had over 2,000 hits, but no sales. Most of the time the visitors do not make it past the home page. I have a high bounce rate.

My other resource page use to have just text links and just this past week I changed it to banner links for the affiliates that offered banner links. I also changed the affiliate banner link on my home page.

My hits come from my Face Book advertising. That is the only advertising I do. I don't have the budget for anything else. I have not written any articles or blogs yet. I also have not submitted to all the directories yet although I do have almost 100 inbound links. But I don't know how to find where I am ranked in Google, if at all.

But, if I could get feedback on my website design and changes I could make to intice visitors to stay longer I would appreciate it. Thanks a bunch.

Hi James, One of the most important things you need to do is take a fresh look at your site and imagine that you're a first-time visitor.

The first things the visitor sees are a heading "About Piano Lessons" and a sub-heading "On-line Piano Lessons".

You've probably written those after doing keyword research. The problem is that they're just LABELS, not real headings. There are no verbs in them, there's no action going on, there's nothing to grab the visitor's attention, nothing to appeal to emotions. There's nothing that conjures up a mental image.

The heading on your main page is HUGELY important because it should entice your visitor to read further, like the heading on a newspaper or magazine article.

Here's how to fix your headings...

Picture ONE typical visitor. Get a clear image of that person in your mind, and get to know what that one person is looking for. Write 20 or 30 potential headings that will appeal to that visitor. Then choose the best one.

Maybe something like...

You can learn to play the piano in only 20 lessons
Learn to play the piano in only 30 days
Amaze your friends with your piano playing
How I learned to play the piano
...and so on

Experiment with ways to incorporate your key phrase "on-line piano lessons" (I'm assuming that's the phrase you're research shows you should be targeting) in your heading.

For example...

On-line piano lessons make learning to play the piano easier than you think
OR
On-line piano lessons: Learning to play the piano is easier than you think

OR, you could start with a small sub-heading "On-line piano lessons" and follow up with a large heading, like this...

On-line piano lessons
Learn to play the piano in only 30 days

Don't take a shortcut. Be willing to spend time on getting this right. Don't just copy one of my ideas. They're just intended to get you thinking. You know this subject and your potential visitor much better than I do.

The heading is probably the most important thing on your page. That's the first thing you need to fix.

Then look at every other word on your site and try to imagine how your visitor is responding to it.

For example, in the article on lessons for adults, I suspect your reader may be confused because after reading your article he's still not sure which product would be best. Your job as an affiliate is to take away the confusion and tell your visitor which action you recommend.

I really appreciate the constructive critisizm. This is the first time someone has looked at it and said something other that it looks really good. But I knew there was something wrong with it. I will get to work on changing it and resubmitting it for another review, if you don't mind.
