I'll take those odds, and say you get reported for spam more often than you make sales

I think in most cases, people won't bother reading your email... provided it gets past the spam filters that many servers and companies now have in place.
It isn't that easy. 99% of the people will NOT buy something from an email, simply because they do not trust that source.
You will be better off building a nice, content site and building traffic and your own ezine... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I agree with Debs and Eric,
With many things changing daily on the internet, even some very good opt-in ezines are having their problems with sales.
Also, as many in the internet world are saying... too many sites are trying to go from a free to fee newsletter instead of just giving quality content and building trust. In different ways many good newsletters are becoming big sales pitches and will continue to lose their subscriber base.
It's a great time to go after the competition and give free quality content which I believe gives long term sales.
Regarding Click Bank, make sure to read Harvey Segal's great resource http://www.clickbankguide.com/

Hello everyone.

That's the bit I have a problem with, too...

This section of the subscriber base is best filtered out ASAP, if you ask me...

I still think a lot depends on the relationship between publisher and potential reader. It's all a numbers game, and just like most direct marketing, the percentages aren't what we'd like.

I like the idea of a paid newsletter for another reason...
If you make it just a nominal fee, can you really say that anyone who unsubscribes would be a genuine prospect to buy anything anyway?
Secondly, the first purchase is a critical psychological barrier that needs breaching. Time and again, tests have shown that repeat customers are much more likely to buy again, so the quicker they make the transition the better.
Small targeted newsletters is the way for me. A fee is just another way of increasing the targeting.

If everyone really is moving that way (in your niche), that certainly is a good opportunity. If you want to be noticed, you must do things differently (while not repelling everyone at the same time).
The big question remains though...
Do you want to collect a large list of people who would rather jump off a cliff than open their wallet, or a smaller list of people who have demonstrated they have both the means and the intention to spend money with you?
All the best,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
