These are 5 personality traits that I feel are essential in developing a long lasting, money making affiliate marketing business.
Or any business for that matter.

Feel free to add on your own ideas. Smile

1. Learning and Training
There is a lot of people making good money in affiliate marketing. You must be willing to learn from these people and follow their lead to success.

2. Investing Time and Effort
No matter what anyone tells you, you can not make money in this business without investing some of yourself into it. Just keep putting in the time and effort and you will be rewarded.

3. Determination
If you want to see yourself succeed, you must continue to push yourself ahead. Any online business can be very dark and dreary in the beginning. You may be doing everything right, or think that you are, and may not see much money coming in. You must continue to motivate yourself and push yourself forward and everything will come together.

4. Self-Discipline
Being that you are working for yourself, it is easy to get lazy. You must continue to put in the effort day in and day out. Putting yourself on a schedule is one way to achieve this.

5. Optimism
It is easy to get negative with an online business. Negative attitudes are always all around you. Just stay positive and focus on why it is that you are working online. Stay positive and positive things will come!

To Your Success,
Glen Speckmann

Not personality traits at all. It's a lovely list though.

Would you describe anyone's personality as... Gee Bill sure is Learning and Training?

The most important thing a person can do is to learn about human behaviors of their customer base.

Glen and quest, that IS a very good list, but it all sounds so darn serious - suspiciously like hard work. Smile

For long-term success as an affiliate, I reckon it helps hugely if you can find ways of enjoying affiliate marketing.

A good start is by choosing a niche in which you're already fascinated. For me, that tends to work for a few years but then I become bored and start looking for something new and challenging.

One way help maintain interest and motivation is to stick to small projects, so you get a sense of satisfaction from achieving something and then move on, if that suits your personality. Some affiliates build and sell websites and get a kick out of doing that.

Another way is to be a bit playful and zany in your writing and in everything you do online. Marlon Sanders is an excellent example.

I think it helps, too, if you're a bit creative and innovative and make a conscious decision NOT to merely follow what other people are doing, but do your own thing, make your own decisions. Having the freedom to do that is a nice aspect of being your own boss.

You can make a game of this industry by having a competition with another affiliate to see who can get the first 100 visitors a day, or the first 1,000 subscribers, or 10,000 subscribers, or the first $100 or $500 pay day.

One affiliate tried to get me interested in a competition to see who could get the most traffic. I wrote back and suggested that I'd prefer a competition to see who could work the fewest hours and still have a nice lifestyle.

I take my wife, Joanna, out to dinner to celebrate every time our newsletter adds another 1,000 subscribers. It's a nice way of rewarding ourselves and staying motivated.

For a GIANT boost to your business and a boost to the way you feel about it, plan to delegate the stuff you're not good at and the stuff you don't like doing. Aim to do only the things you enjoy doing. If it suits your personality, become a manager instead of a worker. You get powerful leverage that way, and if you really learn to delegate, you're not tied to your computer every day. The ultimate goal, I think, is to have a manager who manages your employees.

Whatever approach you take, being an affiliate doesn't have to be all work. You can find ways to make it fun, too. I reckon that one of the most important things you need to learn how to do.

Analyzing what people want and need can benefit you for a long time. If you know exactly what people are looking for, you can easily go through their minds and can let them buy from you.

This is a combination of deep research of problems and giving quick solutions. This is done through niche and keyword research then writing articles about them linking to the product.

Great point!

No one is ever going to stick with something if they don't have fun with it. That's what we have jobs for. Smile
