Hi everyone
Its been quite a while since I last visited here (2007). When I first began this journey into making money online I didn't know anything about how to go about it.
I came here to learn what affiliate marketing was about. I have to admit that I felt out of my depth because so many people here already had a website and I didn't, so becoming an affiliate became secondary to actually understanding how to set a site up. Hence the reason I have been away so long.

So I decided to take small steps, start a bog, write content and became affiliated with Amazon. Slowly but surely I have started making money with the help of some wonderful people. Infact, about 3 weeks ago I was the number 1 site for my keyword in Google. As of today I am now number 7.

So now I think I am equipped to start looking at affiliate products elsewhere, Amazon typically pay around 3% I think so I think I should be able to find something better.
So far I have signed up for.
Linkshare
Shareasale
Commission Junction
Clickbank

To be honest, my niche is quite a small one and finding products to promote has been difficult (even Amazon has an incredibly limited list).

Has anyone had dealings with Clickbooth? I ask only because I want to look at their promotions.

The sign up page asks for my SS number...I live in the UK so we don't have one of these...what should I do?

Even though I was number 1 in Google my poor promotion efforts have resulted in my earnings only being about $200....but hey...it's a start right?

Finally, I have placed this thread in the Getting Started section.....if this is the wrong place please accept my apologies and move to it's proper place.

It's annoying when you come across merchants - or the geeks who create their sites - who seem to think that the world begins and ends in the U.S. I don't have an SSN either.

You can try just leaving the form blank. Sometimes that will work, but often it doesn't. Sometimes I've just put in nine zeroes - 000000000 - and that has been accepted OK.

Absolutely! You've proved you know how to do affiliate marketing. Now all you have to do is improve what you're doing.

What the world doesn't evolve around the United States? Have you not seen "Team America World Police"?

Why did the United States Congress just approve another 95 Billion with a B to fund the "War Effort"... in Afghanistan?

The state of California is 25 Billion in the hole and the Federal Government is throwing another 95 BILLION at a made up war effort? Those sneaky camel riding Terrorists 8,000 miles away holed up in caves eating crickets and drinking their own urine out in the desert need someone to tell them that the World Doesn't evolve around the United States.

I totally get what you are saying. The United States loves to Talk the Talk... then on the backend do whatever the hell they want. I sometimes wonder if the world wouldn't be a much better place if the US Government were beamed off to a planet of their own, so that the real working class could just work and live.

That is a great thing to read. It can also give the best start as a newbie. Having that earnings can really motivate you make more and have more.

I never have tried clickbooth though but I have heard that they are a reputable one. Clickbank is also good as they are the largest info product warehouse in the world.

Starting off with a blog can easily boost your web presence. Good luck for the future. (Nice post)

I just got approved with Clickbooth. I applied with them because they were voted as the #1 Affiliate Network in a recent issue of Website Magazine. They are not the easiest network to get approved for I'll tell you that. You have to take & pass a 30-45 minute online affiliate test before you're ever accepted. They definitely have a lot of great programs inside the members area and seem to have great support from the short time that I have dealt with them.

Thanks for the replies.
For anyone who is interested, I started my blog with Ed Dales 30 Day Challenge. It is due to begin again (pre-season)tomorrow.
Alan, you are correct when you say I just need to improve how I do things and I think this is the bit which will take time.
Google have brought out a 'wonder wheel' thingy and I am using this to guide my keyword research and content writing.

One question I have. I know I can have links for products, but one idea I have is to have links to specific pages in catalogues.
Imagine that my niche is Teddy Bears. I want to create a free downloadable PDF with links to multiple catalogue pages that feature just Teddy Bears and nothing else.
This way users wouldn't have to search different catalogues for bears it would all be in one place and just one click away, and in return I would get an email address and begin to compile my 'customer base'.
So, once I become an affiliate to these catalogues, how do I get a link to a specific page rather than the whole book?

I hope this makes sense!!

I'm not sure I understand. Are the catalogues downloadable PDFs or downloadable files of some sort?

Are you trying to create a link from inside one downloadable report to a specific page inside another downloadable report?

Who's Alan? Smile

I think he is talking about deep linking. Some affiliate programs offer you an affiliate link to a specific product page rather than the home page.

I thik if this is important for your campaigns it is worth geting in touch with the merchant and asking for deep links

Hi everyone
Thank you for your replies.

You are both correct...I am thinking about linking to a specific page. In the Teddy Bear example, I may want links to Pooh Bear, or Paddington Bear,so I want to create a pdf of my own to help the user 'zero' in. So rather than a catalogue where you are directed to the home page with lots of toys, you would be directed to a specific page instead.

That way, I should be able to concentrate on my keyword and content structure.

That's my thinking anyway.
