Hello. I'm new. Really new. I don't have a clue where to start. I've looked at a lot of websites and read a lot of material about AF and am more confused than ever. Is this normal?
Can someone please direct me? I want to start with Google Adwords and make a little money there in order to get my confidence up for website, blog, etc.

Yes, that's perfectly normal because there are so many different ways you can generate revenue in affiliate marketing. Not long ago I wrote an article describing 53 ways to make money with affiliate programs, and I didn't cover them all.
The challenge you face is to create a business that best suits YOUR skills, interests and personality.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I think that's a back-to-front way of approaching affiliate marketing. There is big money to be made from AdWords and PPC marketing, but there's also big potential to lose money for quite a long time while you're learning. Instead of giving you confidence, starting with PPC is more likely to actually make you lose confidence.
When you're paying for traffic, you have to get every little thing just right, or it doesn't work. There's a lot to learn.
For that reason, I recommend you start with the very basics. Build a simple site in a niche that isn't too competitive and learn how to get free traffic from search engines. When you do that, there's much more room for error. You can make mistakes and still earn useful revenue. Enthusiasm and persistence count for a LOT.

I believe that building a niche site will give you a solid grounding in affiliate marketing while also giving you your best chance of success. (By the way, just in case you don't know, AdWords is for advertisers who are spending money. The forum section where you made your post is for AdSense, which pays website owners. It's the other side of AdWords.)

If you don't have the idea at first, you shouldn't start with adwords. You should start first at article marketing. Some refer it as Bum Marketing. That is using free sites to advertise, no advertising fees.
Having enough knowledge on this, you can advance to adwords in the future.

Michael, Adwords really is not the place a newbie should start. It takes a deep understanding of online marketing to make adwords work for you. I would suggest you start by promoting affiliate products via your website or blog
