I am new to the world of affiliate marketing and associateprograms has provided me with a lot of information to get started.
I have just joined the affiliate program CrocMint. At the moment, I am relying on information derived from forums to get me going. Sometimes I just go confused with so much info.
Currently, I have downloaded some of CrocMint's templates and am going in full steam. I would be really grateful if I could get some SEO/PPC tips on how to promote herbal websites like CrocMint. If there are any links or advice that you feel I could use, please do share them with me. Thanks!
Also, is providing links personally to search engines better than waiting for backlinks?

Providing links personally to search engines just lets the search engines know about your site so that it gets indexed.
As for waiting for backlinks if you just wait for backlinks then you'll be waiting forever as it doesn't work that way. Building back links is a process that you have to undertake yourself in order for it to happen.

Try promoting products that are not internet scam junk. Or maybe you can buy it and try it then write a review on how it works.

I'm looking for something that can actually shrink my member, honestly it's just too big!
And I'd also like to find a pill that I could take that would make just one finger on my hand much much much larger.... really large, and long very very long.
I could use it as a pointer to help people find their way.
Snake Oil is probably not a good business venture unless you enjoy scamming those with very low IQ's but big dreams.

Too be honest, there websites aren't that great, from a design/conversion standpoint. There are much better affiliate sites that super-tight designs for conversions. These guys don't look like they done extensive testing.
As for SEO - these types of products are going to be some of the toughest terms to SEO for. I'm in this industry and we have lots of rankings, but it's definitely not easy. Lots of games and "burning of domains".
That being said, I'd recommend possibly going the list building route with this. Maybe give away a free bottle out of your own pocket, in exchange for an email address. Then you can market cross-market some of their other stuff.

I tend to stay away from premade templates. I build my own sites and promote that way. For SEO it makes more sense to go about things this way. A lot of these premade templates just have too much code bloat

As long as you are in a competitive industry, you must provide constant unique content on your target site/s and distribute it actively with relevant backlinks yourself.
You cannot expect to get natural backlinks unless you have some truly unique content or service.
Spread you efforts upon several domains and try to specialize in variations of keywords relevant to the industry.
